Ear plugs

Please can anyone recommend any suitable for eating with people and general use? I'm going to dinner and I'm dreading it. Scraping cutlery and eating noises. I feel anxious just thinking about it.

Loop are good, but I hate eating with them in because they make my eating noises seem much louder

How about foam earplugs - if you insert them correctly I find them very effective and comfortable . Also pretty discreet.
My ears are small and different from one another and I struggle to keep anything other than over- ear headphones in place.

My child has just started using Flare headphones (they go in the ear). They don't cancel noise just make certain noises less harsh.

Hillrunning · 19/06/2022 20:04

I use flare minis. Really useful, make a huge difference.

I got Loop ones recently and find them really helpful. Sometimes I just wear one so that I can still hear conversation really easily - helpful if there's just one noise source!

Which version of the loop ones would you recommend? I tried Flare for sleeping when I had a VERY LOUD snoring boyfriend. They hurt my ears a lot.

I'd go for the big headphones but they aren't very socially acceptable I suspect.

I chose loop quiet

daisyjgrey · 20/06/2022 08:39

I use Loops, and a few of my friends have done the same. I've got the ones that calm the sound and then you can add an insert to mute. I can't eat or sleep in them though, and sometimes I struggle to wear them as I can hear my own breathing a bit too much.

I bought AirPod pros recently and the noise cancelling feature on those was worth the money alone.

This is the only problem I have with Loop. They're good other than that.

I use the very basic foam ones from Boots, the beige colour ones.

Amber17 · 20/06/2022 10:32

I use Flare - they do a smaller one if the originals were uncomfortable?

Oh that's a shame.

I haven't tried eating with both in but I've slept in them fine.

AffIt · 20/06/2022 19:04

I have the Loop Experience, which I really rate.

Agree that the Flare minis are good at softening noises, I only wear them if I need to hear what's going on / what people are saying, then I'm back to shoving in my good old Bioears for anything like the neighbours drilling something. Always wear them to sleep I need total quiet and they're the best I've tried, though they won't be much use if you're trying to listen to others / conversation

I also use the beige foam ones from Boots for my misophonia. Best ear plugs by far. If you rip them in half and put one in each ear they still work completely fine and people can't really see you're using them. Also they are a good balance between blocking out triggering sounds and still being able to hear what people are saying. Don'y know how I survived my entire life till the age of 40 without them. They cost about £4 for 6, but if it was £1000 for 6, I'd still buy them.
