Fellow neurodivergents, what do you wear to bed?

I generally wear what I had on in the day and actually pick clothes that are suitable for sleeping in too.
I mainly wear leggings and a long top of some kind.

I can't wear pyjamas as the trousers twist and annoy me, and nighties just ride up and make me cold.

I have to have bare feet as socks feel awful in bed and even in summer I wear the same clothes. I could never ever sleep naked.

I wear a particular pair of pjs that are just right. I’m eventually going to need to replace them but I have no idea how to recognise a pair that will be just right. I won’t know when I buy them either - by the time they reveal their just-rightness to me they will be out of stock. I wish there was a shop that would just keep making the same clothes over and over.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 05/04/2022 17:57

I wear pyjamas and occasionally a sleeveless nightdress in very hot weather.

I did go through a long phase of wearing underwear, a tee shirt/top and joggers in case there was an emergency during the night, but that was when I had bad anxiety and depression. I'm a bit more relaxed now.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/04/2022 18:01

Knickers. Can't sleep if I'm wearing anything else.

BoardLikeAMirror · 05/04/2022 18:20

Sleep t-shirts. I can't wear trousers even in the daytime so pyjamas are out, and I can't sleep naked even in a heatwave.

Mabelface · 05/04/2022 18:26

Soft, cotton pyjamas that fit closely.

Pumpkinstace · 05/04/2022 18:28

Same as you.

I wear leggings and a long sleeved top as a base layer.

This becomes pj's when I go to bed.

BookHermitBlack · 05/04/2022 18:30

Some m and s lounge wear its like a jogging suit (even on the hottest nights). I too can't wear socks in bed.
Dc1 only sleeps in pants whatever the weather.
Dc3 wears joggers and a cotton long sleeved top. Wears woollen socks.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2022 18:32

Pyjamas or the clothes I've worn that day. I don't normally like sleeping in day trousers because the waistband and pockets are too annoying. I like lighter trousers.

I can't sleep naked because of crumbs in the bed Blush

Boswellocks · 05/04/2022 18:33

Is this really a neurodivergent thing? I share @BoardLikeAMirror 's feelings about trousers of any kind, and am feeling odd about the idea of close fitting pyjamas (in fact, the idea makes me feel as if someone has told me I need to spend the night pot-holing). I am very, very fussy about the feel of clothes and have a limited number of acceptable items which don't press or scratch or restrict or generally remind me that they are there. I'm not neurodiverse, so far as I'm aware, though.

BertieBotts · 05/04/2022 18:34

I hate taking clothes off, I don't like feeling air on my skin. I read that in the past kids were sometimes wrapped up for the whole winter in layers of brown paper and then clothes over the top, to keep them warm. The paper didn't come off for months. I would love that in theory :o

BertieBotts · 05/04/2022 18:36

It's a sensory thing Boswell. You can be sensory defensive without being neurodivergent, but most neurodivergent people have some sensory processing issues.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 05/04/2022 18:38

Pyjama shorts and an oversized t-shirt. Sometimes a hoodie if I’m cold.

Can’t cope with pyjama trousers. Flappy bastards.

Boswellocks · 05/04/2022 18:38

Thanks @BertieBotts That makes sense! I'm fully with anyone who has sensory issues...

That's me too, I hate air on my skin Envy

I hate this too. It's a major barrier to getting dressed if I don't have to leave the house - but part of me feels 'wrong' to be in my dressing gown all day - I wish there was an answer,.
Pumpkinstace · 05/04/2022 18:54

I hate air on the skin too.

I'm the one with the cardigan/jacket/hoodie/coat on in 25+ degrees.

Snugglepumpkin · 05/04/2022 19:07

I wear a casual top (has to be V neck as I can't cope with anything near the front of my throat, long bodied & long sleeved) & sort of leggings which I can answer the front door in with people thinking I am dressed or wear to bed.
Sometimes I'll be adventurous & wear a 3/4 length sleeves top with a pair of those pull on sleeves that you hook over your thumb that go from above the end of the other sleeve to cover your hand up to the knuckles.
Mainly because it's not as easy to get V neck tops I like with long sleeves - can't do shorter than 3/4 length though even in a heatwave.
Air on skin is gross.

I sleepwalk & have left the house on a fair few occasions so I can't imagine going to sleep without clothes on.

FairyLightPups · 05/04/2022 19:07

Interesting, I have sensory issues the other way around - clothes irritate the hell out of me! I wear nothing to bed and honestly if I can get away with wearing nothing during the daytime too, I do that.

EssexLioness · 05/04/2022 19:35

Knickers and pyjama top, or vest top in the summer. I love lounging in pyjamas but can’t stand anything on my legs in bed. Occasionally when warm I wear a tent-like nightdress, that comes to just above my knees. They aren’t the most flattering things as they are enormous, but so comfy and loose - I can actually starfish in them!

FMLpassthegin · 05/04/2022 20:03

I can;t stand bare legs in bed - hate cold legs. Also like to be in tracksuit type of thing- warm and no chance of any cold bits. Similarly with clothes I can't do any half sleeve sweaters - don't understand how you can want to have cold arms - same with cropped trousers - the idea of wind or air going up my trousers makes me feel very uncomfortable.

Do you not get tangled up?

OP posts:
EssexLioness · 05/04/2022 21:07

No, they really are crazy loose so it’s not a problem. I do prefer knickers and top though which is what I wear most nights

LilyRed · 05/04/2022 23:10

pjs or a t-shirt and joggers as muggins here might have to go and see to dog or MIL (elderly, dementia) in night.

I use loose stretchy cotton fabric pieces when I can so nothing gets tangled up.

socks if really cold

AlternativelyWired · 06/04/2022 22:44

Pjs with short sleeves mostly. I hate being naked. I'd live in pjs if I could. Dd doesn't like short sleeves on anything although she has tolerated a vest top pjs in a heatwave. She wears jumpers in summer as she hates the feel of sun cream more than she hates feeling too hot. I can't wear thick pjs or ones with cuffs. They need to be nice and loose but not baggy.

CoffeeWithCheese · 07/04/2022 09:50

@Pumpkinstace

I hate air on the skin too.

I'm the one with the cardigan/jacket/hoodie/coat on in 25+ degrees.

I can't deal with long sleeves during the day unless absolutely essential and I can't abide driving in anything like a coat (or the particular hell of my healthcare tunics - I go out to see clients in a white t-shirt and put the tunic on as I get there) - I will be the last person in the world to wear a coat. Unfortunately I also have bingo wings so the 3/4 length sleeve fashion was awesome for me.

Sleepwise - I just got a horribly overpriced pair of really soft cotton pjs and they're lovely - not so tight and then wide on the waist that they fall down, but not so flappy you've got the MC Hammer effect going on - I need to pick up another couple of pairs of them because I could quite seriously live in them.

Have to have my ear covered when sleeping whatever I'm wearing, need fresh air on my face, can't stand feeling like my back is exposed so it usually takes me an age to get into a precisely arranged duvet situation and then if anyone moves it there is wrath.
