Ok how do you go about it? I have only lately thought that it could apply to me. It does make a lot of sense. I can't bring myself to talk to anyone, I have a few ailments I have been ignoring.

It seems to me that you would need to be forward to even ask the Dr about it, I'm sure they would pooh pooh my suggestion. Wtf would i even say?

You approach your GP and mention that you might have autism. They’ll talk to you and ask you to complete a questionnaire, then if they agree they’ll refer you to the diagnosis service. Be prepared for a 2-3 year wait to be diagnosed.

I wrote a list of traits. 3 categories. Social communication, routine, sensory. (Plus explanation that I was reading about dd's autism)

A reason why I wanted a diagnosis

Knowing NICE guidelines.

Took them to the Dr (found one I liked)

Also did the AQ40

She gave me a form to fill in. (AQ10) sent that back.

Got a letter to say I was on the list for referral and that the wait was quite long.

I spoke to my GP via a phone appointment but he already knows me.
I bought up the reasons that I think I might have ASD and by the end of the phone call he said that It would make sense and that I would be referred for an assessment.
I can’t tell if maybe I just went on so much, he said that to get me off the phone! 🤣
But either way I then received a letter to say that I was on the waiting list and some information “to help in the meantime”.
He told me the wait was likely to be at least 18 months.
