Best vacuums for ND pet owners!

Based on a conversation with another very lovely NDMNer... Grin

So I have finally (albeit following through on a particularly nasty meltdown) managed to kill our much-hated Dyson.

Can I ask for thoughts on good vacuums for pet (cat) owners? We live in quite a wee tenement flat with lots of hard floor / carpet / rug crossover, so I don't think a robovac would be worth it, but I have been looking at Shark uprights?

I hear they make a nice noise, too: everybody wins. Grin

The Shark upright makes a kind of whiny noise and has got blocked a few times by my ragdoll's hair. It's ok but not something I would rave about.

I love my robot. I also live in a small space and I think it is worth it. My younger cat thinks it is great fun chasing it around and my older cat just ignores it since it is quieter than a standard hoover.

Sadly no pusscat at home at present Sad, but I have a very longhaired dog and the shark with the comb bits is great - (I mentioned it on the other thread) like this one.

Amazon sometimes has them on offer.

The Sharks aren't bad. You have to wash the foam and pad filter every one or two weeks to keep the suction good, but that's no effort as they're easy to get to and dry quickly. We bought replacement ones which we just swap over whilst the others get washed.

They're a bit top heavy so can fall over onto your foot if you're not careful. We used to have upright Dysons, but they don't make them anymore. I'd say the Shark is good for the price and loads better than the Dysons. It's kept its suction.

Thanks all! I think the pros of the Shark outweigh the cons, so that's the direction of travel I'm heading in.

Can I ask why you hated the dyson so much?

I need a hoover too and have failed twice to replace my trusty old workhorse that is now held together with duct tape. The salesman refused to demonstrate any of the other hoovers except the dyson insisting that they were all rubbish Hmm right!

Oh, many, many reasons.

The suction is genuinely CRAP for a start, and then I start ascribing the inventor's political views to the machine and none of this will end well. Grin

I love my cordless shark. When you're using it the noise is quite therapeutic but weirdly it doesn't sound the same when someone else is using it. It almost sounds like it's not working properly.

It is excellent with car fur and my long hair. Had it for over a year and haven't had any hair stuck in the rollers yet. The amount of dirt it picks up in what appears to be a clean house is, quite frankly, horrifying!
