Can anyone recommend where to go for private diagnosis?

Hi, I'm waiting to be assessed by the NHS but I'm looking at over another years wait, I've been looking for private assessment online but it's either £2700 or the reviews are terrible, so has anyone got a private assessment that was quick easy and not overpriced, I think I could stretch to £1000 or £1500,
Also did the NHS accept the private report?
Thanks to anyone who can help x

Hi there. No advice as to who to choose privately, and I think it's definitely more than £1500 at the moment. However...

I know that the NHS backlog is such that they are currently outsourcing, which can cut the wait from years to months. It's covered under 'Right to Choose' so could be worth calling your surgery and asking your GP to look into this for you. Perhaps your GP wasn't aware of it when you first asked for assessment. I think if you google it yourself, it may come up under the updated NICE guidelines.

Good luck!

Thank you, I've just had a quote from psyciatry uk for £900 and it's recognised by the NHS, I saw on another thread some one mention them for their private adhd assessment, has anyone any experience of them?

Oh that's good news. I've not had any dealings with them personally, but I know they are one of the places NHS are currently outsourcing to for ASD and ADHD Assessemets, so that is hopefully a good sign. Did they mention time frames?

Mummiepig · 21/02/2022 15:45

They said they can do next week, I'm not sure because its still a lot of money and I'm worried they will say there's nothing wrong with you your just weird and no one likes you 😔

Do you have a link OP?

@Mummiepig I don’t really have advice but just to say I empathise with your quandary about what to do. It’s so hard and it’s such a shame that we are forced to deal with this dilemma when if only NHS services were better equipped we wouldn’t be in that position.

I saw Fiona Gullen-Scott at Spectrum Specialist Consultancy and paid £700 about seven years ago. She was very good. I expect fees have gone up, but she travelled to my area.

I'm seeing a psychiatrist from Psychiatry UK over zoom this Thursday, it's for ADHD but I'd be happy to let you know how it was OP. They've been great to deal with during the referral process. (I was referred via my GP thanks to 'right to choose')

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/02/2022 17:25

I went to Psychiatry UK for my adhd assessment. It was fine.

BachAndByte · 21/02/2022 17:30

Also used Psychiatry UK for my ADHD diagnosis (already had ASD diagnosis through NHS). I chose one of the psychiatrists who said the specialised in both and that came through in the report.

NHS wouldn’t accept the report for medication purposes, for some reason, but that may just be my local practice! And of course that wouldn’t be an issue for ASD.

Mummiepig · 21/02/2022 17:47

Oh yes please let me know how you get on I would really appreciate it
I'm so unsure, I mean I'm 90% sure I have asd, I'm just doubting myself now, what if I am just a weird unfreindable person, god I just don't know what to do, years ago I thought I had old because of my set ways but I had never heard of asd then, my main problems are social interactions and obsessions on certain topics, I'm not sure I tick the sensory box though, I hate noise from other people, if I'm in my house and I hear other people music or voices it makes me feel sick, the worst is a bouncing football I literally go in to panic mode if I hear a football is that enough? I also hate jeans and only wear joggers but it's a more recent thing as I used to wear jeans to fit in with other people but now I don't care, and I don't remember what I was like as a child, my dad said I was petrified of lawn mowers,
I'm torn maybe I have some other problem

@Mummiepig I'd still say it's worth you ringing GP back and seeing if you can be referee to them under the Right to Choose if you're not sure about paying. Would be longer than a week I'd reckon, but could also only be a few months. Have you done the AQ etc in preparation? Sounds like you definitely tick some sensory boxes. AQ will give you an idea of what areas you score most highly in.

Mummiepig · 22/02/2022 12:38

My aq usually comes out around 45-47/50
I think I might just pay it, I can't wait another year and I want recognition at work as I'm always subject to low level bullying so this would then be classed as discrimination if I had the diagnosis

Hi @Mummiepig Just to let you know, I had my Psychiatry UK assessment for adhd this morning and the psychiatrist was fantastic. I was horrifically nervous and had barely slept, but he was the perfect mix of gentle in his questioning but helping me to get to the point, and really listening to my answers.

Mummiepig · 25/02/2022 07:10

That's great thanks for letting me know, which psychiatrist did you choose?

Thank you. It was a referral via my GP so I was allocated a psychiatrist rather than being able to choose. I don't know if it's an option to request a specific person when they initially contact you after referral. Not sure if appropriate to post his name, so I have PM'd you 😊
