Stormy windy weather

BlackeyedSusan · 16/02/2022 10:10

Anyone else really stressed by three days of forecast wind?

It's the added uncertainty.

Really really wound up by it. Especially as it got a bit blowy last night too ahead of the storms.

Just got ex's glass table in and weighted down everything in his garden and tucked plant pots into corners.

Charging power banks. Must find some of the power banks I lost. Probably in the car.

Going to fill the flasks with hot water later. Oh joy of joys.

It wasn't as bad as storm Malik at least - during that I could hear the roof tiles flapping up and down as the wind lifted them, and the garden got a bit trashed. I don't think storm Eunice will be as bad up here.

watchtheglitterdustswirl · 16/02/2022 21:07

I like extreme bad weather (for myself, I don't like it that people are injured or hurt and property is damaged obviously). I do always worry about homeless people when the weather is bad, like it really stresses me out.

It feels nice to be in my hone and snuggled up watching it out of the window. I think that's why I then feel bad about homeless people, it really worries me and I get a big dose of the old hyper empathy where I could cry for people that are outside it in.

Sorry to put a downer on things!

I'm very inland, but it's certainly noisy here tonight!

LilyRed · 16/02/2022 23:33

Well here in N Ayrshire it will be windy with 30-45mph gusts tonight and then bloody cold and windy in the morning and all day. Friday we have less wind so it seems but the sleet and maybe a wee bit of snow will be coming.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2022 00:02

yeah, it'sd the southern half of Britain that gets it on Friday. The half that is not used to strong winds.

DH is stressed.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2022 12:43

I know that feeling.

Just cancelled an appointment for dd at the hospital which meant speaking on the phone as well...

Namechangeagain84 · 17/02/2022 13:08

That's a shame you had to cancel. @BlackeyedSusan. I'd have done the same though. I really hope this turns out to be like a few years ago when the storm didn't happen.

AlternativelyWired · 17/02/2022 14:32

I love a good storm! As long as I'm tucked up safe inside although I like walking in the wind and rain as long as it's not too bad. The sun has just come out here on the Lancashire coast but we are heading home early from our holiday due to the weather.

AdoraBell · 17/02/2022 19:09

We’re in Somerset, DD1 in Cardiff, DD2 in Liverpool.

I had a dental check up today. Due to go the gym at 8:30 tomorrow morning.

DD1 is working in a restaurant, she has to close the bar.

Hope everyone is safe.

LilyRed · 17/02/2022 23:28

Stay safe tomorrow everyone along the Bristol channel and Severn corridor - and in the amber area too. I used to live along the Severn and have family in Gloucester.

This evening's news reported a possibility of a storm surge there which really worries me Sad I remember the one in 2007 as our village in Lincs and the next village was flooded. The Cornwall peninsula gets mad winds sometimes, but the whole area Bristol channel never used to have winds like this.

@BlackeyedSusan I hate making phone calls too! I hope you are ok.

We get scam calls quite often despite being on the TPS and then if they keep phoning I become very rude because they make me so cross (I'm on the laptop so don't have an evil face emoji!)

ThisTownAintBigEnoughForBoth · 17/02/2022 23:41

I'm nervous about damage caused by the storm tomorrow. DP has (at my request) put every last thing from the garden away in the garage but our neighbours'gardens are full of things and I worry they'll blow over to us and smash windows etc.

It's tricky to deal with changes I can control, that's always a tough one for me.

Stay safe everyone. Hopefully it will be less severe than forecast.

wonderstuff · 17/02/2022 23:46

I’ve had dh putting garden chairs in the garage too. We’re on a hill, which I thought would be good for not worrying about flooding, but we lost a roof tile last time it was windy, really does blow down our street.

Very quiet now. I’m in Hants. I don’t mind a storm, but it’s the waiting for stuff to happen that gets me, I’m currently on waiting mode!

AdoraBell · 18/02/2022 13:38

We’re in Somerset. I insisted putting everything in the garage yesterday. DH built a cabin in the garden and there were dozens of pieces of wood piled up. He said they would be fine outside 🤦‍♀️ We have a metal table with slate top. He said that wouldn’t move. Finally moved it as it was taking off. FFS.

All I've done today is read updates about the storm. Literally been refreshing the posts on here and on twitter.
I do the same whenever there is rolling news happening, like a terrorist attack, when notre dame burnt, grenfell etc.
I've no idea why but I feel like I can't move on till the situation is resolved.

BoardLikeAMirror · 18/02/2022 19:02

It's not been too bad where I am, although it's still going on. I've been checking the weather forecast and looking at the BBC live feed on and off all day. I hope everyone is safe!

HereticFanjo · 19/02/2022 11:59

I absolutely love wind. It makes me feel completely alive and connected to everything. It makes me very energised but it can definitely increase hyperactivity in me.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 19/02/2022 12:20

@felulageller

I like the stimulation of it but I'm a sensory seeker.
Me too.

I went and sat outside in it on my lunch break yesterday and my colleagues thougt I was mad

yep. all I did yesterday.

I struggled with so many conflicting emotions yesterday. I feel a bit vindicated for being cautious and prepping, as there were powercuts in our area (not us) and there was some damage and a couple of lucky escapes for people. (trees on roads etc)

Oh and I noticed your Eunice updates...

BlackeyedSusan · 19/02/2022 15:06

lots of Eunice updates...

the only reason I did not post more was trying to catch up with the thread.

We got off lightly really. Nothing broken or fell and the town itself just lost a few trees.
The Eunice thread was huge wasn't it! 3 different posts eventually. I was glued to it. Wasted a whole day.

LilyRed · 23/02/2022 23:12

Well now we Have storm Gladys to look forward to Hmm We are supposed to have snow and thundersnow here... I'll let you know. It has been pretty constantly windy and wet since Eunice so it is getting hard to tell the difference Grin
