I live in Lancashire and definitely don't have a Lancashire accent. I have no idea what my accent is to be honest, it's some weird mishmash.
My severely autistic brother has a really 'posh' accent, even though my parents speak broad Lancashire.
As a young adult I was always asked where I was from and the people would be so confused when I said I was from the town we were in! Most often I would be told I sounded South African.

Reading about it and apparently it's common for autistic people to have a different accent to their peers and family and also for them to pick up other accents very quickly.

Yes 100% me. My accent changes often I don’t do it on purpose I have no control of it. It really annoys some people I think they think I am trying to be something I am not- but I just pick up accents. I live in Lancashire and people ask if I am Irish or South African the most. Oddly I think I sound very Lancashire.

DS2 sounds posh, he has only the slightest hint of our local Scottish accent and since being at uni for four years with lots of English and international students he's even harder to place!

That's a few of us now being told we sound south African. I wonder what it is about our accents that sounds South African?

I wonder if when I'm masking, I'm getting the inflection wrong so I come across as South African? I know Australians inflect quite differently to the British and people seem to mix up the two accents.
