Co-morbid conditions? (Autoimmune, etc)

Hi ND Mumsnetters, I've been really enjoying this board!

I was wondering if anyone on here has co-morbid physical conditions, as some were mentioned in another thread, and anecdotally almost every other ND person I know has at least one autoimmune condition or chronic illness. I have eczema, hayfever and food intolerances, my family (also autistic) have asthma and allergies as well. All of my ND friends and family are hypermobile, with one friend having fibromyalgia and possible Ehlers-Danlos and the others having numerous allergies. I've seen it posited a few times that could be connections there, though as far as I'm aware they're not scientifically confirmed. Has anyone else had this experience?

I'm ND and have psoriasis, food allergies, lactose intolerance, osteo arthritis, anaemia, hay fever and faint a lot which they've never been able to find a reason for.

My ND child has one eye that doesn't function properly, mal formed ulnae, SUFE, lactose and gluten intolerances, IBS hayfever and chronic insomnia. SHe also has the worlds worst periods with flooding that is worse than my menopausal symptoms and is being investigated for endo, PCOS and also has anemia.

Having said all that my NT child is also lactose intolerant, has ultra sensitive skin, spina bifida occulta, and frequent UTIs

Fucking bloody hell...many many long lists.

Is no-one investigating this? (Updating previous list)

(My allergies are grass pollen. A type of tree pollen, feathers and dust and Doxycycline)

HSD, ASD, IBS (which may be something else) I had symptoms of PCOS but am going through menopause so too late really to deal with it? Getting investigations for pots but some stuff has come back normal.

I’m NT. My teen son has autism, and also has epilepsy, with tonic clonic seizures. He started these age 14. He also has started with a hand tremor.
When stressed, he scratches the skin on his hands until it bleeds.

SofiaAmes · 27/01/2022 03:22

Yes my ds has a tremor in his hands, migraines, POTS, chronic fatigue, autonomic dysfunction and cyclical vomiting. Look at the website for Dr. Richard Boles ...he's done a lot of genetics and science on the overlaps with autism and all the other symptoms that everyone is listing. He's also done a lot of research on supplements that greatly improve some of these conditions. There is actually some real science behind this.

Ds2 (autism) has a tremor. He also feels faint when standing up and he gets migraines.

I think we're built differently as so many autistic people are reporting the same type of physical difficulties.

Autistic.
Definitely have some sort of connective tissue disorder going on.
Rhinitis.
Severe tonsilitis as a child (tonsils out at 19)
Raynauds
Severe endometriosis (confirmed through surgery, landed me in hospital twice, lost an ovary to it)
Sinus issues
Migraine, although thankfully rare
Possible absence seizures (epilepsy in family)
Low blood pressure
Poor regulation of body temperature
Inability to digest fatty foods well (since childhood)

InDispairThisWeek · 27/01/2022 10:39

Interesting, my dd also has a tremor in both hands, we’ve never investigated it because of all the other problems but it’s annoying for her as she does a lot of art - not easy when you are shaking, we did mention it to the doctor when we were discussing something else but again it was dismissed as anxiety Sad

My allergies are also grass pollen, house dust / house dust mites and feathers.

I also suffer IBS. Other stuff ruled out so I reckon it's an EDS / connective tissue issue affecting the bowel in the same was that it delightfully does everywhere else.

I also had PCOS symptoms for years. But now also in menopause so I've just left it.

The PoTS thing is a weird one as I don't have the type where the BP drops as the heart rate increases. Can't remember name hydro something PoTS.

I forgot to add to my original list that I also have a tremor in hands as well as an internal tremor / vibration.

ofwarren · 27/01/2022 11:29

I want to add to my list. I read the title as just autoimmune so only put hashimotos disease.
I also have IBS, endometriosis, severe reflux disease.

PattyPan · 27/01/2022 11:48

Oh me too, I also have PCOS to add to my list

LilyRed · 27/01/2022 13:44

@ABitOfAShitShow

although it is truly dreadful that everyone here has such unpleasant co-morbidities, it is great that they are all getting listed here and now I wonder if there is any proper scientific/medical research into this or will this spark it off and lead to a better understanding?

(Newspaper reporters who trawl Mumsnet for stories can bugger off btw, we are not a sideshow for your entertainment.)

Meanwhile, I hope more members will continue to add to this page.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 27/01/2022 15:13

Absolutely agree @LilyRed

Bloody love this new section. Never felt completely understood or fitted in anywhere till now.

Salaro · 27/01/2022 15:16

Migraines, pcos, arthritis. Various stomach and various pain issues that I've given up trying to get anywhere with.
I've found doctors to be ridiculously dismissive I believe because of my autism, when I had extreme kidney pain, he made out like it was in my head and that apparently I was very anxious (as I don't make eye contact) and he reluctantly took the bloods they rang me the next day asking me to go to a+e as my kidney function was very low, so not in my head. Also doctors talking to people with me rather than me, so I've basically given up on health care and just struggle on with the various pains I have 🤷‍♀️
