Hello Ladies,

Please help me host my first eid, MIL and FIL are coming a long way to join us so i want it to be supwr special.

I have been practising my lamb and beef biriyani.

But I was just wondering if anyone had any other recomdations on other things to buy or cook.

I onky have ferreo roche and dates on my list so far.

Also how much should I decorate? I have bought an eid muburack sign and moon plates for the dates so far.

Thanks for all your help. DH is incredibly busy with a new job so is unable to help.

Chicken pastries and something else like chaat are easy and yummy starters

newweeknewme · 03/02/2025 21:43

Starters:

Samosa chaat, or separate:
-Samosas
-Chickpea chaat
Potatoe Pakoras
Fish pakora
Chicken tikka
Chicken steam roast
Tandoori style Lamb chops
(Not everything on the list, just some ideas)

Main:

You've said biryani and lamb which is great.

Dessert:

Ras milai milk cake is really easy (and yummy) if you use shop bought Madeira cake!
Gajrela with vanilla ice cream

The Eid Mubarak sign and moon plates will be lovely- maybe some balloons, same colour as the Eid Mubarak sign!

Hope that helps!

I wanted to add, you can get frozen samoas and spring rolls from Asda / Tesco or local Asian grocery store (if you're tight on time) and just fry them before serving.

You can get frozen seekh kebabs too but I wouldn't recommend from experience, they're better homemade and fresh!

I’d always go for things you can cook well over what people expect!

I am Arab mixed, so we make lots of dishes.
My Mother makes the main dish and we add to it. For morning tea after Salahtul Eid we do 10 different types of home made biscuits. Mum makes some, Aunty makes some and I make some. Then lunch we serve like a buffet stype with finger foods. Lebanese pastries, turkish bites etc and dinner Mum makes a big Lamb tagline / chicken tagine.

If you have others attending they can bring a dish each. MIL can bring some bites / home made biscuits. Etc.
Even when we fly abroad to spend with family we take home made biscuits 😂

My advice is always cook something that you know how to cook really well especially if your cultural background isn’t the same as inlaws.
