With Ramadhan around the corner, I'm starting to panic I haven't done anything to prepare for it.

Please share what your prep includes and any food recipes you may have!

Thanks in advance xx

Ramadhan Kareem everyone!

Taking DC out to our Islamic bookstore later. This morning DC built a masjid from bricks so their toys can go to masjid too! They're still too young to fast but enjoying things anyway.

I'm going to do chicken with saag for iftar, I think.

Was anyone else's iftaar a fail? Or was it just me?

Oh no! What happened?

anotherlevel · 01/03/2025 19:48

@Scirocco Time just ran away from me today and nothing was ready on time. I didn't even get to shower before as I was too busy making food. How was yours?

Awww so many activities happening.
We dont have a local masjid so we are at home and just making things special. Hard t9 have Quran in as Toddler keeps yspping so I am constantly pausing it. So I gave up in the end on my managed 20mins.

The first night was hard as DS2 dexided to cut his 2nd tooth and was up every 30mins so I have had broken sleep a few mins here and there. I am dying today of fatigue and exhaustion. I hope he has a better night so I can do Ibbadah and sleep.

Our Suhour ends at 5:06am deapite being awake all night I couldn't get away so DH had to bring me suhur in bed.
Is anyone else dealing with a baby this Ramadan. May toddler DS1 is fine and sleeps 8pm-7am just the baby waking constantly.

For iftar I made a green super snoothie, home made hummus anfld home made pitta, moroccan soup, home marinated olives and dates. It was the perfect amount and not heavy and feeling light. Smoothies are super important in Ramadan for me.

anotherlevel · 01/03/2025 20:08

Ramadhan with babies is really hard but we do our best and we're rewarded for our efforts In Sha Allah.

Moroccan soup sound really nice, do you have a recipe you don't mind sharing pls?

I had some food left over from yesterday so i didn't have much cooking to do today, my older two fasted, I kept asking them if they were OK and if they wanted to just do a half fast as they are still in primary school but they insisted on keeping it till the end.

They were both gifted a ramadhan chocolate calender so that was nice for them to open after Iftar.

@MixedBananas I feel your pain, that was me last year, inshAllah the greater the struggle, the greater the reward for you.

Scirocco · 01/03/2025 20:29

@anotherlevel timing stuff gets so hard when there's lots going on. I ended up postponing saag until tomorrow because we had some peppers that needed using, so I did a Goan style chicken with sliced peppers in a honey and mango sauce.

DC's built a toy masjid, which is super cute. We've got a little Ramadhan calendar for DC, where each day of the month has an Arabic word, a date and a (small) chocolate.

DC's fallen asleep (exhausted from today), DH is out at the masjid now with his brothers, and I'm going to read Qur'an now (I try to finish Qur'an during Ramadhan, insha'Allah).

MashaAllah that's such a big achievement for your children! ❤️❤️❤️

My dad face timed me and he was trying to tell them it's ok, you can eat now and you will still get the reward, but you know how stubborn kids can be once they have made their minds up.
Alhamdulillah I was so proud of them.

The toy masjid idea is super cute mashAllah 😍

Scirocco · 03/03/2025 18:37

Today DC did sequin and glitter art of moons and stars with their friends. My floor is very sparkly now...

That happened the other night, I had mixed lamb that I had marinated was planning a quick flash fry but of course lots of bones so needed longer cooking. Fortunately realised an hour before iftari (baby’s dinner) so dumped it in the pressure cooker and saved! Alhamdulilah!

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/03/2025 16:06

Mashallah thats so good @Parkingt111 .

My baby/ toddler is 14 months, alhamdulilah still has a big nap but theres always something to do!

I’m making a real effort this year to not have left overs or do a double cook and freeze.

I saw Shelina from masterchef saying she was using Ramadan to eat up all the food in the house/freezer and that actually sounds like a really good plan.

Tonight DH has meetings (US time) so will get a takeaway which means kids I and I will eat all the things he doesn’t like! Butter chicken/brocolli/ for us and some pancakes! What are you all having?

Parkingt111 · 04/03/2025 17:03

A tandoori roast with onions and peppers, and bread rolls Alhamdulillah. Not long for iftar now but as its all in the oven and pre-marinated it's been a easy day. InshAllah it all tastes good. I used up all the freezer food before ramadhan to make space for ramadhan savouries.

Scirocco · 06/03/2025 00:04

Tonight's iftar was pizza. Soooo good. DH made it. 👍

However, DC has somehow managed to get two chocolates out of their calendar, so now I'm going to need to go through all the compartments to find the one with no chocolate and replace it, to avoid Future Me having to deal with the inevitable outrage that would accompany a day with no chocolate. DH naively thinks it would be fine, but I very much doubt it...

anotherlevel · 06/03/2025 14:32

Oh no @Scirocco that would be the end of it if you didn't find the 2 empty ones! IA you've managed to locate them!

How was the glitter clear up....

Glitter is for life, not just for an afternoon, apparently... Chocolates are sorted though. Everything's re-positioned. 👍

Asalamualaykum
Hope everyone's ramadhan is going well! First ten days are already over, it's going so fast and I feel most of my day is spent trying to stop my little one from turning the house upside down so not the most productive with praying and utilising my time how I had hoped to.

Scirocco · 12/03/2025 10:20

"Mummy I want more Ramadhan chocolate!"
Repeat approximately every 5 minutes between iftar and the next iftar.

Scirocco · 22/03/2025 19:09

Super impressed with DH's qeema he made for iftar! Properly spicy and he got 4 different types of veg hidden in it too. ❤️

It is! Plus, he made enough for us to have it tonight, too! He's going out to the masjid with some friends so DC and I are having a movie night later.
