Salaam and Eid Mubarak everyone!! It's my first married Eid which is super exciting but also quite anxiety inducing. Firstly I'm nervous about going to Eid prayers with them because I've never gone before. Secondly I started trying to wear hijab a week or so ago and now I'm conflicted about wearing it today. I feel like I should but I'm so nervous, my friend and family don't all know and I feel like there'll be pressure to keep it on permanently. I also don't know how to wear one in a way that would suit a super fancy salwaar kameez, I've been wrapping a jersey one but that looks weird and too casual with my very blingy outfit. I thought about wearing something different but my mother in law bought me this and I really don't wanna hurt her feelings, so help please!!

@unstableunicorn do you have a silk or chiffon hijab that goes with your dress? If you are worried can even drape it more casually
Sorry I just saw this now so you are probably already ready
Also congratulations on wearing the hijab

I'm wearing a chiffon one now but I just feel so ugly 😭 draping it casually feels like it'll fall off and I'm just so self conscious

Alhamdulillah, congratulations on your marriage and on starting wearing hijab during Ramadan, MashaAllah.

I tend to find simple styles are best for starting out, and there are loads of youtube videos and Instagram pages with styling advice. A chiffon one secured to an undercap could work well as it'll stay in place better than just by itself.

Wearing hijab is a big change, it took me months to feel confident that I was 'doing it right'. What helped was talking with other women wearing hijab about their experiences, and practising styles a lot at home until I found a couple that I could do and feel confident with.

Don't put too much pressure on yourself as it is a big step!

I have been wearing one for a few years but still struggle with the way I look in one so I completely understand where you are coming from. I struggle with loose styles as they never stay on, especially on windy days!

I watched a lot of YouTube videos before I found a style that suited me, and I regularly change my style too.

I hope you enjoyed your Eid!

What are you on about?

that's good advice from @JamTartLover about practicing different styles with different fabrics until you find some styles that you like and feel comfortable in
