I have just taken up piano which I am loving. I have some theory homework which is working out the melodic and harmonic minor scales of C major and D major which I have half done but I am a bit confused because would these have a relative major? or have I gone wrong?

"relative" refers to sharing the same key signature. C major has no sharps or flats, A minor has no sharps or flats (in the key sig), so they are relative minor and major to each other.

C minor (harmonic or melodic) has a key signature of 3 flats. The major scale with three flats is E flat.

D minor (harmonic or melodic) has a key signature of 1 flat. The major scale with 1 flat is F major.

Does that help?

Oh yes - that helps. I was struggling with working out which major scales had all those flats in them.

Thank you,thank you.
