and it made me all goosepimply. It's a haunting piece of music anyway but she makes it all husky and yearning.

It's on youtube but it won't let me link. Have a look.

Just gorgeous.

There was a prog about that piece of music on Radio 4 this week, Weds (?) lunchtime, called Soul Music IIRC. They had several versions of it, including Alison Moyet's. Also one by Jeff Buckley, again pretty amazing.

Yes, that's when I heard it piccolina. They repeated it today when I was driving to pick DS2 up from riding. Nearly crashed the car! The Jeff Buckley one was weirdly disturbing but very beautiful.

I heard it on that R4 program too, and loved.
Am thinking of adding it to my list of funeral music for my own funeral (not that turning 40 this year is affecting me in any way at all).

OrmRenewed · 13/03/2010 23:12

Oh you cheerful soul pip

Better than letting someone else pick Robbie singing Angels . Perhaps I should visit the 'middle-aged things I've done this week' thread and cheer them all up as well....

Amapoleon · 13/03/2010 23:16

It was really haunting!

OrmRenewed · 13/03/2010 23:16

Ye gods! Anyone plays Robbie WIlliams at my funeral I shall bloody get up out of my coffin and clatter them!

See - it's only sensible to plan ahead... do you think it would be too control freaky to draft my own epitaph?

ilovepiccolina · 14/03/2010 19:31

Pip, I'm with you. The thought crossed my mind that I wouldn't want Angels at my funeral too!

It's funny, since I turned a certain age recently I've discovered a liking for classical music, well some of it anyway. It was that Popstar to Operastar prog that did it, and IIRC this was one of the pieces that they had on there. I've always been drawn to some, like the Sabre Dance and Carmen, but now I'm prepared to actually listen to it properly for the first time.

ninah · 14/03/2010 19:33

Purcell? really?

ilovepiccolina · 14/03/2010 19:45

Yes, but it doesn't sound all Pomp & Circumstance-type. I wouldn't have guessed it was Purcell. It is very simple, just a voice and a few strings, melodic and emotional. And short!

ilovepiccolina · 14/03/2010 19:46

BTW I do know that P&C was Elgar. Wasn't it?

ilovepiccolina · 14/03/2010 19:46

Er, New not Ew!

OrmRenewed · 14/03/2010 19:58

Erm yes it was Elgar not Purcel About
200 years between the two,
