dd plays the clarinet(working on grade 2) and her school music teacher is putting together a recital with piano and sax and clarinet together????

if the notes c.b.a.g.d,were being played on the piano

what are the (same sounding)corresponding notes on the clarinet

answers on a postcard please to: a very unmusical mother and a daughter that is hopeless at relaying messages

does that make sense???

thanks in advance

I don't play Clarinet, but I believe the clarinet is a Bb(flat) instrument, so if they play the note C, it sounds like a Bb (as played on a piano)

You therefore need to move the notes UP a whole step
C,B,A,G,D on a piano = D, C#, B, A, E

Good instructions here

The music teacher should know this & transpose the clarinet music accordingly so that it is written as you dd should play it I would think.

thanks milliways - i will tell dd when she comes home and have a look at the site later

snorkie - i thought that too but apparently music teacher has never played clarinet only plays the piano

the clarinet lesson is provided by a specialist teacher who visits all the local primary schools but sadly his last visit was postponed and the school music teacher has her lesson before the next visit.

But a music teacher should have enough knowledge of music theory to transpose it with/for your DD!
