Bit of a long shot - does anyone know anything about traditional Scottish Gaelic music?

I listen to BBC Radio nan Gàidheal and every now and then they play what sounds like some sort of traditional (Celtic?? / Gaelic?) group singing. It's usually quite slow paced and led by a male singer, with a (mainly female??) group following. There's something slightly depressing, yet soothing about it

I don't speak much Gaelic (yet) so can't understand what the presenter says after it's been played. I'd love to know more about it!

are they gaelic psalms? they are sung in the free church because music isn't allowed but they have a really haunting quality, and sound as though they are influenced by the undulations of the tides. well i think so!

is it this kind of thing?

i'm always reminded of native american chanting when i hear it too... but i think that may be because i imagined my grannie was a squaw when i stayed with her in the hebrides when i was little. she would take down her long pleats before going to bed and always looked as though she should be smoking a peace pipe.
