And timeless.

No.

poshsinglemum · 10/12/2009 23:55

Well I think so.

I know they aren't cool or in but I think a lot of their songs are great.

Queen are Kings.

timelordvictorious · 11/12/2009 00:28

I love them. Especially Show Must Go On - he wrote it when he knew he was dying, and it breaks my heart.

At risk of outing myself as a loser, our Sky+ is full of Queen concerts, mostly recorded by Bloke, but with my full support.

Buda · 11/12/2009 00:36

Fab. Just fab.

Went out with a Queen fan. Was very [hmm}. Then he dragged me to see them live at the RDS in Dublin. FANTASTIC.

Also saw them at Slane. I think U2 were supporting them. A long time ago!

They were fab. Freddie was SUCH a performer. Had the audience in the palm of his hand.

timelordvictorious · 11/12/2009 00:57

Wow, Buda. You saw Freddie? ?
My parents saw them a few times, and Dad maintains Freddie is the best performer he has ever seen (and he saw A LOT of bands, back before he shaved the beard, donned a suit and became a grandad)

Paul Rogers is good, but there's no comparison.

Buda · 11/12/2009 06:01

I saw Freddie twice. Your Dad is right. He was the best performer I ever saw.

Am a bit worried that I am the same age as your Dad though!

flimflammum · 11/12/2009 06:10

I saw Queen (with Freddie) at LiveAid [show off emoticon] - and they blew everyone else away (except Bowie of course). My brother was a big Queen fan when I was growing up, so I've always heard their music.

BellaBear · 11/12/2009 07:34

I love Queen. Think it's because I first got into them as an impressionable 12 year old (ie when he died and my mum brought all the greatest hits albums because the money went to Terence Higgins )

I am a Queen fan. I can remember watching the tribute concert with friends, all of us in tears.

We live quite close to Montreaux, where Freddie lived the last years of his life. The statue that is on the cover of the last album is there and every year on Freddie's birthday fans from all over the world come to Montreaux to celebrate.

This year we happened to be there that weekend and it was a nice atmosphere, Queen tribute band playing, mountains in the background. Nice.

timelordvictorious · 11/12/2009 09:34

Wow. Have just had a chat with Bloke, and we've decided that would be an awesome trip to make.

I don't think you're my dad's age, Buda-he just grew old disgracefully. (As I intend to do!)

Buda · 11/12/2009 09:41

Thank you for that timelord! Although growing old disgracefully is hurting my head this morning!

MmeLindt · 11/12/2009 12:45

timelord
Photos here. You can fly into Geneva and hire a car to get to Montreaux, or go on the train. It is a beautiful area. If you do decide to do it, give me a shout if you need any help.

ThumbleBells · 11/12/2009 12:48

Yes - utterly. My biggest regret in musical terms is that I didn't get to see Queen in concert - and then Freddie died and that was that
He was a genius.

RorysRacingReindeer · 11/12/2009 12:51

Like them more and more as time goes by - can't resist holleringsinging very loudly to almost all their songs

Winetimeisfinetime · 11/12/2009 13:09

I love them too. In the very early days they played in my home town and my mum wouldn't let me go as she thought at 15, I was too young. I still regret that now.

They must be timeless as my ds, who is now also 15, loves them too and has asked for some DVDs of their concerts for Christmas. I am really looking forward to us watching them together.

I love Freddie and was so upset when he died. He never really spoke a lot about his Indian heritage and my ds and I were talking about it recently and saying that it is fab that one of the best rock music performers ever was Indian. I think it makes him more special to my ds as he is also of Indian heritage { my dh is Indian }.

MmeLindt · 11/12/2009 13:25

When we are travelling up toward Montreaux, I often put Made In Heaven on, the whole CD just fits to the scenery. Gives me the shivers.

Monty100 · 11/12/2009 14:28

Mme sounds fab.

poshsinglemum · 11/12/2009 22:08

I'm so glad you all agree. pure genious. love bohemian rhapsody, i want to break free. most of em actually.

i discovered them as a teenager on holiday in italy when i had my first kiss with an italian boy. brings back lovely memories!

Think Queen were fantastic. In my opinion A Night at the Opera is one of the most brilliant albums ever.

SausageRocket · 11/12/2009 22:17

they were bollocks

poshsinglemum · 11/12/2009 22:20

I am also gutted that I didn't see them live. That would have been one hell of a gig!

UnquietDad · 11/12/2009 22:22

Yes, they are great. Timeless songs.

On the radio today, one of the Kemp twins from Spandau Ballet was talking and was saying that being in a band is only about how you look and dress for about 5 minutes. Long-term it's about the songs, and if your songs are great you will endure, no matter how bad your fashions.

That's why (for example) Queen, ABBA, Spandau Ballet, Tears for Fears, Take That and Girls Aloud are timeless, and some of their other more "trendy" contemporaries are not.
