Strong women songs...

Does anyone have any suggestions for good songs by/about strong women? I'm thinking of making a playlist on spotify or downloading some stuff for my mp3 player. Up to now I have sheela-na-gig by PJ Harvey and that is about it...

I'm after psyching myself up for the whole birth/postnatal/breastfeeding thing, and for some reason feel like listening to a load of women being all...female, if that makes sense...

The one by Des'ree with lyrics something like ...'you gotta be strong, gotta be wiser.....all I know is love will find a way'.

Apologies for poor memory, but it was one of her big hits.

Off the beaten track, there are some inspiring tunes by Seize The Day such as love is a mountain and 3Daft Monkeys are great too

lurkingdad · 25/11/2009 23:02

I can think of some strong women songs but maybe a little too miserable and emotional for what you are looking for
Karine Polwart - The sun's coming over the hill
Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl
Kate Rusby - No Names

I guess it all comes down to what you define as a strong woman song. Do you mean kind of shouty I will survive type songs? Most of the songs I think of as strong woman songs are like the Kate Rusby / Karine Polwart strong quiet woman dealing with adversity in a strong powerful way.

mayorquimby · 26/11/2009 11:00

paisleyleaf · 26/11/2009 21:40
