NBelle · 29/08/2009 19:45

You got the love - The source featuring Candi Staton.

Your choices are really good so far, I'm a big Stone Roses fan and will have them on when i finally get to give birth (on the IVF waiting list) Sally Cinnamon is my favourite

Good luck

BosomForAPillow · 29/08/2009 19:48

I have heard of Andrew WK!

DS was born to 'Band of Horses' which I doubt anyone has heard of but there is a bit in the first track where the sound is slowed down and distorted. During that bit I was in transition and thought I was going insane and probably dying as the music wasn't working properly. I'd advise against anything that does that, was quite a worrying experience!

That said I had a great birth with DS and I love listening to that album now.

Good luck!

Fraochsmum · 29/08/2009 20:40

I hadn't really thought of this, but it is such a great idea! Loving some of the suggestions, think I'd better start getting it ready now - I'm not due till January but I'm a bit of a technophobe!

poguemahone · 29/08/2009 21:13

I had the same mix CD on a loop throughout labour (too busy to even ask for any of the other CDs) and now those songs are very special to me.

There Goes the Fear (Doves) was brilliant for making me feel positive

bethylou · 29/08/2009 21:58

Hi, with you on the ABs for Group B strep. We had 'Don't stop me now' while I was in labour which I love, and can't listen to it now without smiling. Also randomly managed to give birth in my Nike 'Just do it' t-shirt!! Admittedly, the labour took a good 14 hours so maybe it was a bit misleading but I got there in the end. Still can't stand the 'birth shirt' my husband was wearing though - I only gave it to him as a birthday present the week before and now I'm intending to dye it in the washing 'by mistake'!!

Gingerbics · 29/08/2009 22:10

I tried to do a playlist to and my husband made really unhelpful suggestions such as...
Torn by Nathalie Umbruglia
Love will tear us apart
..... bad i know but couldn't help chuckling

deadflesh · 29/08/2009 22:10

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

justbeenforapromenade · 29/08/2009 22:43

Fat bottom girls - Queen

justbeenforapromenade · 29/08/2009 22:46

I had a C-section in the end and remember the track that was playing as they sliced me open (not my choice...just on the radio). She's the One...by Robbie Williams, which was actually very touchingly apt, as baby was a girl, which we'd been secretly wanting, but had been convinced we were having a boy. Our dreams had come true!!

spiderlight · 29/08/2009 23:39

Mine was Enya - Long long journey. I still get broody even thinking about it!

Another possibility is that Pink song - I'm coming out, so you'd better get this party started

YummyorSlummy · 30/08/2009 01:18

Um, would Sex On Fire be wildly inappropriate?!

bebejones · 30/08/2009 08:33

Guns n Roses - Sweet Child of Mine

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 30/08/2009 08:38

Lololol @ Sex on Fire.

I spent ages putting together music for my second labour, five minutes of listening to it and I was screaming 'will someone turn that fucking shit off, I am trying to concentrate' .

bebejones · 30/08/2009 08:39

For Your Babies - Simply Red

linz76 · 30/08/2009 10:03

Good choices Spawn Chorus! Midwives completely slagged off my choices, and they switched it off! Instead of my ds being born to The bends by Radiohead (best album ever by the way) it was The Best of Lionel bleeding Ritchie(birth partner's choice).

Can I recommend: yeah yeah by LCD Soundsystem
I am the resurrection by The Stone Roses
Paranoid Android by Radiohead
Friend had Come into my world by Kylie playing when her son was born. Prob not your style Spawn Chorus but quite sweet nonetheless. And don't let the midwives bully you into switching your tunes off!

TeaandCake · 30/08/2009 10:32

Bloody hell Spawn I LOVE your list and am now totally inspired to create a playlist for labour (due in 12 days)!

Must suggest This Is The One by The Stone Roses, best intro ever!

Southwestwhippet · 30/08/2009 12:50

Am I the only person wanting classical music?

I want Bach Brandenburgs, some of the late Beethoven string quartets, Mahler 1, Dvojak 9, Mendelssohn Octet, Vivaldi flute concertos and Boccherini and Haydn 'cello concertos. Although I am quite taken with the idea of throwing some Smiths and Blondie into the mix as well

DISCLAIMER - did a music degree, grew up only listening to classical music, not really into pop music, not being a pretentious snob.
