I'm too idle to make up a playlist. Do it for me, and start with "What time is now" by the Smiths.

Feeling dictatorial, and lazy.

Wanna playlist.

Wanna nice playlist NOW.

retiredgoth - at 32 I'm probably slightly younger than my taste in music would lead you to believe, I was born out of time I think!

retiredgoth2 · 22/04/2009 00:24

....sigh.

My illusions are shattered, TC.

I am an old fart, after all.

....simple maths tells me you were 6 and 7 when the U2 and Sisters tracks you mention were released.

Sadly, I saw both bands play live in those years.

(U2 were, and remain, rubbish by the way)

EachPeachPearMum · 22/04/2009 04:11

Ah... now I've seen Sisters.... (and Mission- amazingly 5 times!)

though I was just 5 when my favourite song ever was released... (Olivers Army)

SuperBunny · 22/04/2009 04:29

I love this thread title.

snigger · 22/04/2009 18:37

Thank you for all the horizon-broadening, occasionally off-piste, suggestions - I am having rather a lot of fun with this.

DH refuses to let up on the mockery after I revealed my track title blooper

"What time is now?

Was that on Hatful of Weebles or Meat is Munchy?"

I feel so ashamed - I did a beautiful silhouette of Morrissey in Tippex on my Geography folder in 1986.

Thanks again - you've produced a very good cumulative playlist. 'Cept the Straits

/hangs head in abject shame

janeite · 22/04/2009 21:55

Lovin' Meat Is Munchy!

Retired Goth - there is an ORIGINAL to Like A Hurricane? Why don't I know this?

Wedding Present - fab. My favourites are Give My Love To Kevin and Corduroy.

The Brilliant Corners were my first ever gig!

upagumtree · 23/04/2009 10:15

Definately with you on "Give my love to Kevin" janeite. Tis a fab song! Saw the Wedding Present live at the Barrowlands in Glasgow. Must have been ooooh '88 '89 somehing like that. They were brilliant. Incidently have seen Morrissey six times although wasn't fortunate enough to see The Smiths . Fave band of all time .
This thread has made me wanna go into the garage to find the boxes with all of my old vinyl LP's which I didn't ever replace wih Cd's. But I've sprained my hand and wouldn't get very far! Should have put My Bloody Valentine, Adult Net, Sonic Youth, The Orchids and McCarthy on my suggested playlist too.

Sorry Snigger - Hijack over

tartetatin · 23/04/2009 10:19

Have you looked at www.last.fm ?

upagumtree · 23/04/2009 11:08

Aaaaahhhh! What a great link tartetain. Listening to Waking up n the sun by The Adult Net as I speak/type. Thanks

retiredgoth2 · 23/04/2009 18:47

....Like a Hurricane is one of Neil Young's finest! Janeite.

....my obsession with fondness of the Wedding Present continues to the present. Witness the mighty Gedge's latest offering

Sad old git that I am....

janeite · 23/04/2009 18:59

Oh no - all of my memories of The Weddoes have been tarnished now: that's horrible!!!

Saw them loads of times: the best probably at the Humming Bird in Birmingham. If I remember rightly, in all the times I saw them, they never, ever played an encore.

Sonic Youth - now they were brilliant live.

Does anybody on this thread like Hole? We've been having a major Hole revival chez Janeite this year.

toomuchapplepie · 23/04/2009 19:35

Ooh now I'm really excited, I like Hole but haven't met anyone who likes them for about 15 years. I first heard them on John Peel with Teenage Whore. Dearly missed Peely said "I particularly care for the line where she sings I wanted that shirt and I wanted those pants"

I had a terrible crush and David Gedge for years and once stood behind him at the Reading festival but couldn't think of anything to say to him.

RaggedRobin · 23/04/2009 22:03

oh my god, upagumtree... i LOVE the orchids. still listen to underneath the window, underneath the sink. saw them play once at the admiral bar and have loved them ever since. i'm twee as they come, though.

not a big weddoes fan, but i was at that gig in the barras in 89. me and dp's second date, if i remember rightly. or maybe that was the bachelor pad...

RaggedRobin · 23/04/2009 22:05

and this my bloody valentine is one of my all time favourite tracks.

upagumtree · 24/04/2009 00:22

Oh Ragged, I haven't met anyone in years who has been able to appreciate my musical tastes! As for the orchids...I snogged Moody in Radio City. But in my defence I hadn't heard of the Orchids at that point and didn't know who he was.
When I saw The Wedding Present their supporting act was James. But get this...also loved the batchelor pad!!!! Do they really live in strathbungo?
Fave Valentine song is from the same album. Lose yourself in me. Brilliant track. Didn't ever get to see them live though which I regret.
Was made to feel extremely old yesterday. I was driving the car and I put in a cocteau twins CD. The kids gave me nothing but grief about it until eventually I had to turn it off . By the way...do you remember primal scream in the good old days? In the days when primal scream were good? ((((you see, am also very twee ))))

janeite · 24/04/2009 16:45

They were playing Pearly Dewdrops Drop in Gap last weekend! DD1 told me off for singing along (or wittering along, as I didn't know the words - if there are any!).

RG - thanks for educating me on Like A Hurricane.

Good to see another Hole fan on here - she says, blasting out 'I want to be the girl with the most cake.....'

Woooozle100 · 24/04/2009 16:50

I like Hole too. Pre celebrity skin stuff anyway

Can't remember if I saw em at the villa or at wolverhampton

What about babes in toyland? bikini kill? bratmobile? even had urge to listen to l7 t'other day

RaggedRobin · 24/04/2009 18:36

upagumtree: we are the tweetwins!!!

do you mean this kind of primal scream?!?!

jeez-o! you went to radio city? i'm surprised we don't know each other!

saw my bloody valentine at the college of building and printing sometime in 1989 (i think?) was gutted not to see them recently especially as my pal was playing in the pastels supporting them, but couldn't get a babysitter. i think my ears were glad though!!!

moopymoo · 24/04/2009 18:45

Oh so this is where the cool people are hiding...well cool when we were er, young and now hitting mid 30s with the dms and stripy tights. How about some Husker Du and some Breeders anyone? Belly? New Model Army? ~ I was a bit scary! Though my one and abiding love is REM. Anyone from Preston?

upagumtree · 27/04/2009 17:17

Yes. That's exactly the primal scream I mean! Fab fab fab. I had no idea The Pastels were still going?. Thinking we are definately the twetwins too...quite scary...but in a nice way It looks as though we did the same student circuit at the same time. We would always start the weekend off in the Halt bar on a friday night. Then onto the variety bar or the griffin. After that we'd go to either Radio city, the Glasgow Tech, the art school or strathclyde uni. But usually Radio City. Saturday nights were pretty much the same routine. On a thursay it was always the QM... {{{{{{{{floats away in nostalgic moments of seeing the Sundays and the throwing muses at QM and constant slipping on spilled cider and black on the QM stairs}}}}}} Ah those were the days

Moopy - I spent the hole of my teenage years and 20's in stripey tights and dm's, although my monkey boots were a firm favourite also. Luvin' husker du and REM. Also many years ago when I was working as a midwife, I delivered the baby of a New Model Army band member

RaggedRobin · 27/04/2009 17:48

heh heh... i was at that throwing muses gig too. went to the art school on a saturday night for many a year. then discovered techno and moved to 69 in paisley, where i danced out my days until i retired to reproduce. now all i have is the nostalgia and threads like this!!!!

upagumtree · 28/04/2009 00:34

Wow ragged, these are amazing coincidences. Our paths must have crossed at some time with us going to the same places at the same time. Although I never did "get" the techno scene. Just isn't my thing I suppose. Likewise my clubbing days ended with the onset of motherhood and all I have to show for the good old times are boxes of dusty LP's, a couple of photos and some very good memories. >

RaggedRobin · 28/04/2009 22:51

we should set up an old clubber's reunion club: 9.30pm -11.30pm, with long breaks in between each track to sit down in comfy chairs and get your breath back. and with the music not too loud.

upagumtree · 28/04/2009 23:02

Dm's and walking sticks optional {hmm]
