Taylor Swift lyrics

My daughter (20's)is a big Taylor Swift fan and I would like to get her some wall art for Xmas. I've found a company that prints song lyrics onto posters. Can anyone suggest some lyrics ( a couple of lines) that I can use for a poster please ( and the song it's from)
Thanks

I was going to suggest this too, an obvious choice maybe but iconic and what a song You're On Your Own Kid is! I am a devoted Swiftie, named our daughter after one of hersongs, not Betty, Marjorie, Dorothea, Clara, Cassandra, Aimee or Emma though!
In my opinion, she's the greatest lyricist in pop music history, a true poet, so narrowing down favourite lyrics is hard but your suggestion is a great one. You're On your Own Kid is also the song the newly released and long-awaited Eras snow globe plays so it clearly has significance to Taylor herself. The problem is that some of my favourite Taylor lyrics are quite melancholy, so probably not ideal choices for a piece of hopefully uplifting wall art! However, here are a few other favourites of mine that might fit the bill:
"Best Believe I'm Still Bejewelled when I walk in the room
I can still make the whole place Shimmer."
or maybe
"What's a girl gonna do?
A diamond's gotta shine."
both from Bejewelled on Midnights which is a pretty positive song
If she's into cats, like Taylor herself, then these lines from Karma might be fun!:
"Karma is a cat
Purring in my lap cause it loves me."
This beautiful lyric from Paris, also from Midnights, would make for a great artwork I reckon:
"Levitate above all the messes made
Sit quiet by my side in the shade
And not the kind that's thrown
I mean, the kind under where a tree has grown"
happiness from evermore is an exquisite song with some of her best lyrics, which is saying something, but most of the lyrics are very sad and wistful. However, I have always thought there is a lot of hope reflected in the lyrics too, and this lovely lyric and is a great example of that and would probably very much appeal to a die-hard Swiftie like your daughter as this is something of a fan favourite:
""In our History
Across Our Great Divide
There is a glorious sunrise
Dappled with the flickers of light
From the dress I wore at midnight.
Leave it all behind."
There are also two lines from tracks on 1989 which, while not amongst my absolute favourites, I always thought were fun and pithy and would make great t-shirt slogans. First, from Blank Space:
"Darling, I'm a nightmare
Dressed like a daydream."
From New Romantics:
We're too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet.""
If I were you I'd probably play it safe and go for the You're On your Own Kid lyrics, but I'd personally choose the happiness or Paris lyrics as they are my favourites! Good luck, I'm sure she'll love whatever you choose!

I suggested Cornelia as it's one of my husband's favourite TS songs, but he didn't fancy it as a name. We did consider Willow too but neither of those, my user name may be a clue!

I recently met a little boy called Archer at one of our baby groups but resisted the urge to ask his mum if he was named after that magnificent track 5!

Thanks for all the suggestions
I messaged her swifty friend last night and she suggested " everything you lose is a step you take" from one of her favourite songs so I'm going with that
Thanks again 👍

Honesty, looking at this thread, I thought I listened to too much to Taylor Swift but maybe I'm not listening to it enough. I'm starting to find the amount of music out there quite overwhelming in general!

And I can't listen to music and try and do stuff at the same time, or at least I have to be very careful what music I choose, if I listen to Taylor and try and do stuff, I won't actually do the task I meant to be doing.

But looking at @Everlore post it makes me realise it's not as wedged in my brain as I thought it was. I think it's something to do with when you hear stuff. So I remember the Shakespeare texts I studied at school in a bizarre amount of detail, but to be honest Folklore and Evermore were my least favourite albums <ducks>

I've been trying to keep off social media so I didn't know there was an Eras tour snow globe but I've just looked at it and I haven't taken to it the way I really wanted the TTPD one. Which I didn't get anyway!

Today's earworm is "The Bolter".

I've seen a lot of posts about the snow globes being really poor quality, often arriving broken and having lots of scratches, foreign objects floating inside and customer service not caring.

I have always been a lyrics person, I think it's the English Literature geek in me! I can remember, in vivid detail, the lyrics to songs I haven't heard since I was a child and which I never much cared for back then so, naturally, the lyrics of my favourite artist are very precious indeed to me! I have studied Taylor's lyrics, in particular, in minute depth, affording them the kind of detailed textual analysis I applied to works I studied during my English under-grad and graduate degrees! Glad my degrees came in handy for something!
It took me a while to learn all the lyrics to all 31 songs on TTPD, some of her densest lyrics to date, but I'm glad I did as I consider TTPD to be one of the TS big five, the albums of hers I believe to be flawless, the others being Reputation, folklore, evermore and Midnights in case anyone's interested!
Fortunately, The Life Of A Showgirl was very short for a TS album so had those lyrics committed to memory in a couple of days!
TS lyrics, but I can't think oo
Love The Bolter by the way, one of numerous highlights on an astounding album!
It is an utter travesty that Bob Dylan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature and Taylor Swift hasn't, I'm not even really joking! She's a genuine lyrical poet.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/11/2025 17:03

@Everlore Are you my person?

I actually said that Taylor Swift deserved the Nobel prize for literature for her lyrics ... before Bob Dylan won it. I just looked that up - that was nearly 10 years ago.

The person to whom I said it looked at me as if I was a total nut job. Interestingly, he is now into her music, and he admitted to me that he just had some weird idea that he'd read about in the gossip rags. He'd never actually sat down and listened to her music!

When I have the time, I will certainly sit down and study the lyrics and the structure. I thought I knew them pretty well, but looking at your post I realised there is a gap for Folklore and Evermore. That is partly to do with the timing of those albums coming out. In fairness that might also be why I rate those albums the least - I don't know.

I did fall hugely in love with "Champagne Problems" as soon as I heard it, but it is quite personal to me. So there have been a lot of tears from me from those Eras tour clips initially, but fortunately that part of the show became such a joy, I don't think of it for the song's content so much now (Although I probably would if I was just listening to it and not watching a clip from the tour).

There are quite a lot of Taylor Swift songs that are just too emotional to have playing in the background. But it's the soundtrack of so many people's lives now, across so all age groups.

@AlltheHedgehogsontheWall

Love the username 😉

I never paid much attention to merch in the past. I'm not one to spend money on stuff like that. I only heard about the TTPD snow globe and people seemed to be very pleased with it. I really wanted the Eras tour book - but no luck.

I am so pleased that more people are recognising Taylor's lyrical genius, she really is peerlesss. I think the fact she hasn't enjoyed the same plaudits as someone like Dylan is partially snobbery about, supposedly, mainstream disposable modern pop music and partly good old-fashioned misogyny. I fear that the idea that old male song-writers tackle important, worthy issues of substance and weight while women just write fluffy nonsense about silly ephemeral topics like love and relationships is still all too prevalent! I am looking forward to reading Maggie Nelson's new book drawing parallels between Taylor and Sylvia Plath and I loved the fact that, when TTPD was released, Radio 4 broadcast several scholarly discussions on the subject of her music, with the classicist Natalie Haynes even comparing her to the lyrical female poets of antiquity!
I think I love folklore and evermore so much because they, to me at least, reflect the very apex of her lyric-writing. What interests me so much about them is that represent something of a departure from her usual lyrical themes. Her lyrics are usually intensely and movingly personal and, while she has engaged in story-telling and character studies before, this becomes a dominant subject matter on folklore and evermore. There are, of course, still very personal songs and others which can be read as allegories for her personal experiences, but others read like short fiction stories. I love that this gives her the opportunity to examine different issues and perspectives from different points of view.
Sorry to be waxing so lyrical, it's just hard to put into words how much her music has meant to me personally. Like you, I have very strong personal connections to so much of her music, she's been there with me through so many good and bad times and I truly believe there are TS songs for every single mood or situation!
I have also never bought any official merch, too expensive, though I'm kept up to date by my friends who have bought lots of it and are always sharing their purchases! I was particularly jealous of the tolerate it table cloth, embroidered with "Lay the table with the fancy shit"! I have friends who bought the TTPD snow globe last year, along with some other Christmas decorations, and they love it and it is amazing! I know they've just bought the 'toy chihuahua in a tiny purse' Christmas decoration from the new holiday drop and the Eras tour snow globe.
I have, however, bought several dupe TS cardigans really cheap from Aliexpress. I'm not sure about the ethics but they look great and cost me about a quarter of the price of the originals so that's always an option!

I think you need to ask her! If she’s a full on Swifty then she’s probably deep dived particular songs and has ones that she relates too the most!

For example All Too Well is MY song but I wouldn’t have it on the wall now I’m happily married.

LOVE the idea of using lyrics from the surprise songs if she went to the tour! Be a little careful though, one night I got Haunted x Exile so that’s very dark and again wouldn’t have it on the wall!

The second time we got Change x Long Live however so this would be epic!

Mine too.

Maybe we got lost in translation, maybe I asked for too much

My friends bought theirs from the official Taylor Swift site, it was released last year and sold out pretty much immediately I think! Definitely worth checking Etsy though, bet they'll be some good versions on there!

No, betty is my husband's least favourite song on folklore so no way he'd be agreeing to that! It is folklore/evermore inspired though, somebody has already mentioned it.
