To each their own, of course, but I don't get jazz. It sounds like a lot of out of tune noise to me.

There are so very many types of Jazz. Perhaps you just haven't found the one you respond to?

My adult child, for example, would frequently comment that Miles Davies (my type of jazz) should just find a tune and stick to it, instead of mucking about.

Yet they will enthusiastically listen to people like Ella Fitzgerald.

I think that if Any Winehouse had lived, she would have become (in my mind, she was) a renowned Jazz singer.

It's a mistake, I think, to envision Jazz as one type of music. I cannot, for example, listen to what is termed "New Orleans" jazz, but play me the opening bars of "Kind of Blue" and I'm in heaven.

Not sure why you’re posting? Yes to each their own. Are you wanting to explore it more? I didn’t really appreciate it til I was older and I still don’t love the Miles Davis frantic kind of jazz.

Try these if you want, they’re quite accessible easy listening and you’ve probably heard of at least a couple already, they’re so ubiquitous…

PS best to listen middle of the night! Jazz is made for nighttime imo.

I mostly like jazz, but it comes in many forms and there’s some of it that I really don’t enjoy. The endless noodling and soloing can really grate. I prefer the more melodic style. One of my favourite albums is Horace Silver’s Song for my father (very gentle, melodic and beautifully played). I also like Gordon Goodwins Big Phat Band

I can’t stand Opera though. Each to their own!

Can’t bear it either @LilyAnn13

I think you haven’t listened to the right jazz.

listen to the piano in the first five minutes of John Coltrane’s ‘Favourite Things’

Try Bill Evans’ ‘Peace Piece’

Oscar Peterson’s ‘Wave’ is beautiful

Miles Davis’s ‘So What’ is my favourite Miles recording. I don’t generally love Miles Davis. The mute trumpet is quite a chilly instrument.

There are many types and styles of jazz. It’s hard to believe anyone could dislike all of it.

There’s a lot of really melodic stuff that falls under the Jazz banner.

Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd or Tom Misch might be worth investigating.

Tell us what you listen to and we'll be sure to find you some jazz you like.

Ok, hard bop and modal jazz aren't for everyone but there is a huge spectrum in jazz and something for everyone.

I've had this conversation with so many people, they hate jazz but actually love loads of jazz that they think isn't really jazz (Frank Sinatra and Amy Winehouse seem to come up a lot) and before they know it they're listening to Ella and Billie and the rest of the canon. I tend to wait a bit before introducing them to Miles Davis and the like though.

If you want some non-noodling jazz then try "Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster" by two of the greatest ever jazz saxophonits, accompanied by Oscar Peterson, one of the greatest jazz pianists. Some real crowd pleasers on it.

Also try Ella Fitzgerald as previously mentioned. Other great female singers, aside from Billie Holliday, are Sarah Vaughan and Julie London.

Jazz-adjacent stuff would be Bobby Darin, Ray Charles, Rhapsody In Blue by George Gershwin.

Two classic jazz albums of all times have already been mentioned - Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, and Time Out by Dave Brubeck. You'll probably know some of the tracks already, without knowing you know them.
