Music reading tutorials - recommendations please

My son (finally as a young adult!) wants to learn how to read sheet music for piano. I could teach him the way I learnt 50 years ago, but aware they may well have been improvements in how best to learn since then!

Does anyone have any recommendations for good YouTube tutorials?

Are scales and arpeggios considered old school? Or still good practice??

I should add, DS is dyslexic. He is self taught on guitar and is able to find chords naturally on the piano and out them together himself - far better than I can! My concern is whether the way I learnt, which was mostly parrot fashion and heavy on the theory, might not be right for him. I never had the confidence to try things out for myself, only ever did what I was taught, read music and stuck to it! I want his learning to be enjoyable and not bore the enthusiasm and creativity out of him!

Hoping a budding pianist with dyslexic teaching knowledge comes along soon 😁

DD is a pianist (g4). DS is a guitarist (g7) - they still do scales are arpeggios! For G7 ds had the choice of s&a or studies, but s&a are still very much a thing!

Ah that's good to know! Thanks 😊
