Ed Sheeran panic!

I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can help me as I've tried to understand this but I'm going round in circles!

My DD is a massive Ed Sheeran fan so when he announced the Ipswich dates we decided to give it our best shot and get me and her (logistically difficult for DH to get there!) tickets for her birthday.

We heard about the pre-sale so DH got on it and ordered the CD to get the code. Great so far...

What we didn't realise was that meant the pre-sale code was linked to DHs email account, so the tickets had to be bought using his ticketmaster account. No problem- I logged on as him and off I went.

I was so lucky to get almost to the front of the queue so got in to buy the tickets pretty quickly. Good news! This is where it gets confusing...

When I went to buy two tickets a message popped up saying 'lead booker must attend this event'. I panicked because obviously I'm logged in to DHs account so he's going to be the lead booker and bought 3 tickets (what are credit cards for?!).

But now here's the problem - it's a possibility that DH won't actually be able to attend. What I can't work out is how me and DD can attend without him???

I can see that we are able to sell the tickets but I can't work out if DH can possibly transfer them to me so I can be the lead booker?

To confuse matters more I emailed ticketmaster who responded by saying this is not a lead booker event, and anyone can use the tickets! But it's on Ed's actual website that is is!

Please someone tell me how I can make sure me and DD can use our tickets without DH if necessary. I have major anxiety we're going to have to just sell the tickets and forget the whole thing 😭

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along in a minute but I bought tickets for my son and he just logged into my account so he had the lead bookers tickets. All was fine

I am logged in to his account but it's says on the info that the lead booker needs ID with a matching surname. We do share a surname but would that be enough??? We live 4 hours from Ipswich so it would be terrible to get there and be turned away. DD12 would be devastated.

We went to an Ed Sheeran concert and had read the same information but no one checked the names on bookings or ids at all. I’m sure you will be fine.

megacat · 16/05/2025 19:36

I’ve never been to a concert where they check this and I go to loads. It’ll be fine.

OK this sounds positive. So do they just put this info out there to scare ticket touts?

I’ve never had tickets checked but could your dh sell them to you?

I thought this but I can't work out how! It's all very vague - 'the tickets MAY not be transferable... you MAY not be able to sell through ticketmaster' etc. Its seems ridiculous that it's easier to sell to a stranger than to your own bloody wife 🙄

I had very similar with the Eras tour. Both myself and DH applied for codes but only he got one so we booked on his account. Nearer the time he transferred the tickets to me - this should be an option but it was close to the gig for Eras (a week before - just checked).

I would add though that I go to loads of gigs (25 a year on average but I did 29 last year) and I have never had to show ID which matched the booker name (including Eras).

Pancakeflipper · 16/05/2025 20:09

We had similar for a gig. A few days before the gig DP transferred them to my ticket master account.

whoami24601 · 17/05/2025 09:05

So hopefully the transfer option will come live before the gig? It's all the hopefullys and maybes that are stressing me out! I want someone to say 'do this and it will be fine'! 😬

Are they electronic tickets? If so and you have the tickets on your phone they won’t check. I’ve often bought tickets for gigs for my son as a present etc and not gone with him and never has it been queried because he has the tickets on his phone. Thousands of people go in to gigs. They don’t have time to check the names. If they did they’d have to ask for proof of id and that would take too much time. They don’t even look at the ticket in detail just scan the barcode with the barcode reader.

CalamityGanon · 17/05/2025 09:40

Yes the transfer facility will come before the gig. If not you just download Ticketmaster on to your phone and log in with your husband’s details. I booked tickets for my son in January which had a big banner saying ‘transfers not allowed’. However I was just planning on giving him my log in details just in case. However a month before the gig the transfer button became live and I just transferred them

OK panic over - DH has managed to organise his life so he can come! Phew!

DD and I go to loads and loads of concerts. Almost all tickets say this but I’ve never once been asked for ID or anything. I vividly remember having this worry for one of our Eras Tour dates as the person who booked the tickets wasn’t coming, but it was not a problem in the slightest nobody asked us. Hope this helps and hope your DD has fun!
