Hi I'm looking for some feedback from parents who have had their child at Purcell.
I have a keen 10 year old that insistent that this school is right for them.
im looking for to speak with some current or recent boarding parents

@MovingBird123
thanks for this, I assumed Westminster would be pushy.

I think I am more prepared now than initially in questions to ask about the safeguarding situation and have spent some time looking into it.

We have been to see a number of other schools, most independent. however none of them have impressed us musically.
tring park was great with the performing arts but musically it would hold my child back as there just isn't any challenge.

Purcell was impressive musically, they use the same educational software as some of the independent schools and the staff and children seemed happy and most importantly my child felt comfortable. Most the other schools felt like they were putting on a show.

@Purpleisnotmycolour
LOL, there are a few all Steinway schools.
although we're not at a all Steinway school my child spends their break time playing on a grand piano! Yes this is how my child spends break times. Not playing outside.

Years ago I had a friend who went there and absolutely loved it. Not much help to you right now, but if your child is that talented and really wants to go, I'd do it. If for any reason it doesn't work out (too great a leap from biggest fish to smallest fish, or homesick, or even just didn't meet expectations) you can always move - it sounds like you have an exceptional child.

My son went to Purcell and started Year 7. It certainly had a good vibe amongst the students who were generally happy and outgoing, and being amongst like minded musical peers can really inspire and foster a feeling of inclusivity and creativity. Musically it is a great school both practically and academically - lots of opportunities and some excellent music teachers - though a number of the best ones (in my opinion) have left in recent times. However, I would caution against sending your child here if they are high achieving academically in other subjects and looking to go on to somewhere other than a conservatoire at the end of their school career. Purcell's academic results are distinctly average, if not poor - you can see past years' results on their website. Academically (i.e. notwithstanding the practical audition), students only require two passes at A Level (that's grade E) to get into conservatoire generally - and hence this is where most of their students end up - again you can see details of this on the website. Junior Conservatoire combined with an independent school with a strong Music department is a better option if you have other, higher ambitions.
