TTPD - faves, skips, thoughts

MN swifties - now we've had 3 months(!) with TTPD, I would love to hear which songs people are particularly enjoying, your skip songs, and your overall thoughts!

I'll go first...

Faves:
SO many but I particularly love The Bolter, Cassandra, Who's Afraid of Little Old Me, Guilty as Sin, Florida and So High School.

Skips: I don't like Thank You Aimee, I Look in People's Windows, The Alchemy and (unpopular opinion) I don't particularly warm to LOML.

Overall thoughts: a spectacular album. Absolutely love it. Prefer it to Midnights but doesn't reach the dizzy heights of Folklore. I love the majority of the songs on the album though, and can't stop playing it.

It amuses me that for the rest of his life Travis Kelce has a theme tune.

Interestingly OP, we share the same Loves and Skips, however I have to say Down Bad is probably my favourite on the album. I really find the UFO & alien imagery so good, I find myself day dreaming random music videos scenes in my head.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/07/2024 21:14

I’m not hugely keen on The Bolter, The black dog and So long London. I can see the value of all of these songs but the sort of deep depression factor really hits hard. Unpopular opinion – not keen on Down Bad.

Just find it a bit dull

In terms of favourites, I’m always more likely to go for the one that’s more upbeat. Initially I would’ve said my favourite was The Alchemy.

But I do love loml. My perspective has changed with the concerts. So I now really like Smallest Man and Who’s Afraid much more than I did just on listening to the album.

My favourites remain So High School and BDILH.

Just realised I don’t know why I’m typing these titles in full 😂 also love I can do it with a broken heart. Just too many good songs really!

but with SHS, I listened to it with my headphones in and that’s when I really realised how beautifully produced it is. I recommend doing that if you haven’t already. The music is amazing and I initially didn’t realise that with the flow of the song.

In some ways, I’m probably creating a concert version in my head when I listen to these songs. So some of the chords that are played at the beginning of Fortnight when she’s on stage, I now hear in my head when I’m listening to it just from the album.

It’s all mostly brilliant. As per Taylor 🫶🏾 But my least favourite album was Evermore, which is clearly unusual.

Thanks for your post, Down Bad is such a tune isn't it! I agree it would make such a good single. It's been a while since Fortnight- surely she will release one soon. I was thinking WAOLOM for the second single but Down Bad could be it for sure.

Thanks for your post and just goes to show someone else's skips are someone else's loves! It must be why she finds it so hard to trim albums. There's something for everyone.

Wow you don't like evermore!!! That is unusual. Out of interest what is your favourite of hers?

Thank you for the tip about headphones, I must try that.

I discovered TTPD by chance, never heard any TS apart from most famous singles. My faves are TTPD, ‘my boy only breaks his favourite toys ( I think this would be a fab single/video) guilty as sin, clara bow, SHS. I have a terrible tendency to only listen to songs I instantly love so I skip a lot of the rest!

EmeraldRoulette · 21/07/2024 21:56

@Thanksbetomoonah totally agree on that for a video. The imagery of pulling the string on the doll is fantastic.

@Purple89 How do I pick a favourite? 🤔hmmm. My favourite album is probably 1989 and my favourite song is probably OOTW. But those things are going to be linked to periods of life as well.

I don’t dislike Evermore. And champagne problems is one of my favourite songs like absolute top favourites. In fact, looking at the track listing, I am not sure why I said that 😂 It is possible it’s because it came out in lockdown and I had such a terrible time I have a total mental blackout of the time.

Looking at tracks individually, I do love a lot of them. In fact, I probably prefer Evermore to Folklore.

Going back to TTPD, I wasn’t sure about Florida and Guilty As Sin in the beginning, but now I love them.

I love that the Blue Nile CDs are now sold out because of that reference. I bet they weren’t expecting that!

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 21/07/2024 23:07

My favourites are LOML (can you tell from my name??), guilty as sin, who's afraid of little old me, Chloe or Sam or Sophie or Marcus, Smallest Man, Peter.
But really I think almost all of them are great!

I don't really like the alchemy or so high school.

Thank you Aimee, and Florida are also not particular favourites.

It's definitely better than Midnights, although that also has some great songs!

I'm hoping we get some new vault tracks for the Reputation and Debut re-releases. I really enjoyed the 1989 ones.

Coughsweet · 21/07/2024 23:23

I like Clara Bow and the Black Dog. I feel like there are a few songs with a novelty edge on the album and I’ve tired of those songs first. I’d put “whose afraid of little of me” in that category (too screechy to be a comfortable repeat listen, I assume it’s inspired by all the hoohah about Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire/first album); ICDIWABH - please don’t to 3+ hour endurance test concerts that become an ordeal when there is bad stuff going on in life; So High School - fun listen at first but piss take lyrics, indie pastiche makes it feel like pulling a cracker; feel same way about Thank You Aimee. I don’t like the effects on Down Bad, alien farting noises, not fun.

Writing this, I’ve realised I stopped listening to the album a while ago and I don’t really have any urge to go back to most of it. I do love Clara Bow through. And her duet with Gracie Abhams is a good song.

Coughsweet · 21/07/2024 23:27

But nothing beats Marjorie, Seven and Hits Different.

EmeraldRoulette · 21/07/2024 23:59

@Coughsweet I found WAOLOM screechy but I love it now.

Hits Different is absolutely amazing to me. If anyone heard me singing it on Tube platforms, I apologise 😂

YouLookLikeStevieNicks · 22/07/2024 00:16

I agree with all of yours OP, except I really like The Alchemy.

My opinions have changed slightly since seeing her live. I wasn't fussed on The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived until I saw it in concert but now it's one of my absolute favourites!

On the other hand, I probably like Who's Afraid of Little Old Me a bit less now just because the album version isn't a patch on seeing it live. And sometimes I forget when listening to the album version and will scream "BUT WHAT IF IT ISSSSSS!" at the top of my voice. Then I remember I'm just in my kitchen.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/07/2024 00:25

@YouLookLikeStevieNicks 😂 could be worse. I was in Aldi singing “bad blood” in my head, until the HEY accidentally came out out loud. Oops.

MrsJamin · 22/07/2024 06:24

I'm seeing Taylor at Wembley and so I am trying to get to know TTPD but controversial opinion it's my least favourite TS album ever! I just don't think the musical aspect has kept up with the lyrics, it's like she wrote poems and then sung them over some music. I also think it's way too long. I like Down Bad, But Daddy I Love Him. Perhaps I just don't empathise with her lyrics that much, as it's been half my lifetime ago that I had a broken heart. I have literally been listening to this album just so I know the song at the gig, like doing my homework!

MrsMonzo · 22/07/2024 06:42

My favourite TS album (note, I was a huge Swiftie up to 1989 and then went off her music so I'm not familiar with much of her music in-between!)

Love: The Smallest Man Who Ever Loved, LOML, Thank You Aimee, Down Bad, The Bolter, Who's Afraid of Little Old Me

Not as keen on but wouldn't skip: Cassandra, Clara Bow, How Did It End, the one with all the names

Probably skip: Fortnight, Florida, How Did It End

It would make such a good video! Love that song too. There are so many great songs on the album I found it hard to narrow down. But my boy only breaks his favourite toys is a top 10 for me.

Thanks for your post - I agree re vault tracks. I love smallest man. But not keen on chloe Sam Sophia Marcus. Possibly I just don't connect with it much as it just feels like a random bunch of names in the title- maybe need to relisten.

I do actually agree on the novelty point. I don't mind it too much on some of the tracks you mentioned but it does take away from them being timeless/ classics.

LOVE all these. Seven is actually in my top 3 TS songs ever. It makes me emotional. Marjorie is top 10 ever TS songs.

Thanks for your post! I actually felt the same re the poetry at first but it really did grow on me from multiple listens. I do still feel that way about the odd track.

I'd have said that the first week.

you only need six songs for the show.

I have never listened to even the first album in one go since the initial release.

I don't know that "favourite" albums are a thing for me. I'd always skip Marjorie, Betty, and quite a few from TTPD, which is two albums really.
