DD will be 12 soon and thinking of getting a keyboard as a birthday gift.
Budget upto £500
No space to keep a full sized piano.

She plays the violin and sings (classical) and is doing her theory. All at Grade 5. So, is used to reading music etc. She has shown an interest in playing the keyboard using apps, just for the fun of playing different music, as it is so much easier. So, I am thinking of getting a keyboard as a surprise gift

Any suggestions please?

TIA

My friend is a piano teacher and told us when we got a keyboard for our DS to make sure it had piano movement in the keys

Don't remember exactly the correct term, sorry, but it is something to do with how the keys feel when playing them

We got DS (15) the Yamaha PSR-EW310 Full 76 Key for £285. He's been happy with it.

We have the this one....

Have had it since January 2022 and it used most days. No complaints. Price has increased by £60 since I bought it.

We also have the Yamaha P45, it's got weighted keys so feels like playing on a real piano. Very happy with it.

Both DS's piano teacher and his school music teacher recommended Roland for sound quality, "feel," and reliability. He has an FP-30 which is a shade over your budget, and he's used it daily for over 7 years. It sounds amazing.

The Yamaha P series is good. It's their stage pianos. I had the P-120 for years and have just upgraded to a Clavinova as a treat for myself. I did learn with an upright when I was a child. I much prefer a electronic piano myself.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 14/08/2023 15:36

I mean I prefer electronic over upright because I don't need to maintain it. It's also possible to move without hiring piano movers. Not because of the sound or feel.

I hear Roland is good too but have only played Yamahas.

My family is split. Dh and ds are both pianists, dh originally classical and now more musical theatre, ds is pop and musical theatre.

Dh loves Yamaha pianos and would say the P45 although he currently wants a Clavinova. However our current piano is a Roland. We all like the Roland.

Ds prefers the touch of Roland although he also likes the Yamaha CP88 keyboard.

I would also recommend the Yamaha P45, get the package with the proper stand (not the collapsible one).

Or with stool and headphones:

Thanks all for your suggestions. Bought a Yamaha P145 finally

Just looked and I see it's the new upgraded version of the P45. Shoudl be a great option.
