What are your favourite pieces to play on the piano?

I learnt to play the piano as a child but stopped at grade 3. Recently I've picked it up again and I've been playing Beethoven's Fur Elise and Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 16 in C Major. I love playing these two pieces. I'd love some inspiration on what to lean next. So what are your favourite pieces to play?

Oh and I love playing Beethoven's Sonatina No. 1 in G Major too.

Chopin's Nocturnes - all of them.

Maybe Schubert? Or Debussy?

Thank you, I remember playing Chopin Nocturne no. 9, or an easier version of it, as a child, so will give that a go next!

I am on a Clementi kick at the moment, the sonatinas and some sonatas. Sonatinas by Kuhlau (sp?) are nice too.

If you want something modern, Yiruma’s music is beautiful, I especially love a river flows in you and chaconne :)

Arietta by Grieg is lovely.

I recently came across this again after many years. I think I did the Scherzo for my grade 3!

Khachaturian - Pictures of Childhood

On closer inspection, that link is to something slightly different, although some of the movements are the same.

Weird. I may have to try playing some of the movements not in my copy!

Burgmullers 25 easy and progressive etudes would be perfect - they are lovely pieces and progress from g2 to 5

I also loved Christopher Norton's Microjazz collections

Right now I'm working on Chopin nocturnes - just got to the final stage of working in the bass hand chords on 9/2

I've got a weekend at Finchcocks in May with Warren Mailley-Smith who is a Chopin expert and can't wait

I've not had a piano lesson since 1994 so to say I'm overexcited is an understatement ! I get two whole hours one to one with him [twirls with glee]

Anything by Chopin, but if I just want to play to relax without having to concentrate hard then Ludovico Einaudi.

Kissthepastrychef · 11/04/2021 22:52

@ViolaValentina it is tiring isn't it 😆. I did g6 at school about a hundred years ago so the Chopin stretches my ability to it's absolute limit
