Adult learning violin - acoustic or electric?

Hi, I've always wanted to do this. I've been learning the piano for a few years to help me learn to read music, and it's fun, but I find violin music touches me more deeply (apologies to pianists).

I was thinking of an electric as I don't want to bother the neighbours, but violinists have said an electric is harder to learn with.

Can any violinists out there lend a view? And does a mute really help to tone down an acoustic violin?

I have played the violin for 36 years, I've never tried an electric one but you can control how loudly you play on a traditional one, it all depends on the amount of pressure you use with the bow. A mute does dampen and change the sound considerably. I honestly don't think it's the kind of instrument that is really loud enough to bother the neighbours 🙂
