What does this notation mean?

My son and I are both grade 2 piano and I got him got the Greatest Showman piano score for Xmas. In the photo I'm wondering what the diagonal line is for between the treble clef d and base clef c-e chord. Anyone know? (I'm wondering if it's aimed at the singer rather than the pianist).

A glissando? Like a slide between two notes?

Weird way of writing it imo but it must mean the note in the bass line is the one you sing - otherwise there’s no note to sing “own” to etc.....

I think it’s showing that the melody is going from the D to the E. I don’t think it’s standard notation though.

As previous posters have said, it's just showing that the melody goes down into the bass clef part. Quite commonly seen in beginner piano music.

Thanks - that's what I was guessing ... glad I'm not missing something I should have known. 🙂
