Do you still buy CDs?

Just wondering what people do generally? I still buy them but that's because I'm a bit rubbish with technology.

I don't personally, no.

I listen to Spotify on my iPad at home, or through speakers and/or the TV.

I've asked for some for Christmas though so that I can play them whilst driving.

I think their future is numbered tbh what with everything being available electronically.

megletthesecond · 12/11/2018 18:45

Yes. 3 or 4 a year. Usually work out compilations / Now music.
I've got an iTunes account but it's good to have some solid music in case I can't download it to a future device. Although I've burnt all my iTunes to disc so hopefully I can move them to another device.

BackforGood · 12/11/2018 19:23

Yes, occasionally - well, more likely put them on my Christmas / birthday list

ScreamingValenta · 12/11/2018 19:24

Yes. I don't want my music collection to be at risk of disappearing due to technical failure.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 18/11/2018 17:21

Yes, to listen to while driving

RusholmeRuffian · 18/11/2018 19:13

Yes, for listening to in the car. I still buy vinyl for listening at home.

DonnaDarko · 18/11/2018 19:15

Nope but DP just did buy about 10 for his car, in case he forgets the cable for his phone and the radio is crap (usually is)

Jojoanna · 18/11/2018 19:46

Nope

WaterBird · 20/11/2018 07:17

Not cds, but I sometimes buy whole digital albums off Amazon. I suppose that doesn't really count, but most people just buy individual songs. But I'm a huge fan of folk songs and dances, and often a lot of them in one album will be good.

PickAChew · 20/11/2018 07:21

Yes. They feel a bit more permanent. Ds1 spends his pocket money on cds in charity shops. I think he likes the tactile aspect more than the music itself.

PaintBySticker · 20/11/2018 07:25

Yes. For the car.

hugoagogo · 20/11/2018 07:28

Yes, I like to have something for my money.
I would buy vinyl if it wasn't so pricey and also time consuming to make mp3s from it.

Lamentations · 20/11/2018 07:30

Yes. I only get to properly listen to music in the car.

WaterBird · 20/11/2018 07:31

That's why I really like Amazon. Once you buy the digital music it will already be in mp3 format.

WhirlwindHugs · 20/11/2018 07:32

Yes, for the car.

Also for the kids, it's often cheaper than a download and gives a backup option.

thismeansnothing · 20/11/2018 07:37

Absolutely!!!. I like having the hard copy, perusing the artwork, reading the lyrics in the sleeve. I like having the collection. Don't like digital music, or the thought my phone could break or whatever and I'm musicless. Listen to CDs at home and in the car. I'll occasionally use Spotify but sound quality and ads ruin it and I begrudge paying for it

Nenic · 20/11/2018 07:38

No, haven’t for a very long time

notacooldad · 20/11/2018 09:26

Very rarely.
IF I do I tend to buy cds from small bands at small gigs to support them but then I tend to put it in a mp3 or iPod. I usually leave the CD at home or at work and listen to the band via SoundCloud, bandcamp, YouTube or Spotify!

Leatherboundanddown · 20/11/2018 09:31

Occasionally buy from charity shops for the car. Never new though

Need2morehands · 20/11/2018 09:35

Yes and I love them but I’m literally the only person I know that does.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/11/2018 09:40

I did up until about 6 months ago. I only really listen to music in the car and my new one has bluetooth.

PerverseConverse · 20/11/2018 09:45

Yes, I do. I make compilations myself and put them on disc too. For the car, for the CD player, for gifts. My children love cds.
Is Spotify something you have to pay for?
I usually listen to music on my phone but would prefer it on a stereo as better sound and volume. Maybe I need one of those docking things or a Bluetooth speaker...

minniemoll · 20/11/2018 09:56

No, I got rid of all mine - I have a Spotify subscription and a Sonos system at home, and in the car I either use a memory stick with 4gb of music on it or listen to music from my phone via Bluetooth. All so much easier than finding and changing CDs, especially when driving!

Poster65 · 20/11/2018 10:04

Yes if it’s a special edition/signed etc but they still don’t seem to make it out the case lol

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 20/11/2018 10:13

Yes.

Both new and secondhand.

I regularly play them and rip them for my mp3 player too.
