Got to say I love their new album particularly 'Bait and Switch' and the Rifle's Spiral'. Waited four long years since Wincing the night away and not disappointed! This will be the soundtrack to my summer for sure.

Bumping to add album is called Port of Morrow (how fab is that?) and they now appear to have a girl in the line up.

Aw I love the shins but with my 15 week old dd stealing all my time I've not had a sec to check out the new record! Husband seems to like it! Funnily enough I was listening to a compilation cd dh made up years ago and kissing the lipless came on and I was totally transported to being 24 without a care in the world! Love them!

Hurrah a fellow fan Smile Treat yourself I promise you'll love 'morrow. Both my boys love it too. Usually my eldest turns off anything I'm listening to and puts on Dollar Sad. I played him 'mirror mirror' as a joke and it hugely backfired on me. It's now his favourite song! GrrrrrrAngry

Hi, weirdly they escaped my notice till recently (not sure how as I like that kind of music and some of the soundtracks they have featured on). They havr cropped up a lot though and really LOVE Simple Song so think I will get the album in the next few weeks. What other stuff am I missing by similar artists? I like things like the Decemberists, Pavement, Pixies, Breeders etc, but kind of like more folky stuff (sign of getting old!)

Ooh, really? Must check it out. Wasn't really blown away by Wincing the Night Away, I prefer Chutes Too Narrow. Still, high hopes for the new one.

Wonder when they're touring the UK? They're amazing live.

Just to add 40 Mark Strasse is my new favourite track - has a real 70 's feel and is a work of genuine IMO. Love to know some of the stories behind these tracks seems to be a theme of hard times come good, delinquent childhoods and love affairs gone bad.

I'm also very interested in other band recommendations please Smile

Ooh will definitely get it and have a listen. re recommenations, I am no good really for really recent stuff as have a nearly 2 yo dd and so the last few years have been a catch up. However I love loads of old indie stuff, quite a bit of American music and lots of random old stuff for which I blame my dad. What i would really recommend as I love them are the following (apologies if some are obvious). please recommend old and new stuff too- I don't care how old the music I listen to is!

Astral weeks by Van Morrison is mind blowing ( favourite tracks are Sweet thing, Cyprus Avenue and astral weeks but there is not a bad track on there) plus Crazy love is a great track
Blonde on blonde by Bob Dylan, from that I love Visions of Johanna, but other odd tracks I love are When the ships come in, Most of the Time, Ballad of a thin man, etc
The King is dead by the Decemberists, download Don't carry it all - folky and lovely
Pixies- Death to the pixies still sounds great I love it
Tanya Donelly - lovesongs for underdogs - after a few listens it is just great
same with Belly ( her old band)
I also love anything Jack White does....he could play the spoons and make it sound original and he probably does on one of his albums! am looking forward to hearing Blunderbus
I reckon Stephen Malkmus is similar to the Shins - I have his first solo album and love that
Elbow - asleep in the back - first album and still the best, LOVE scattered black and whites
Turin Brakes is great too

Agh, I could go on! will recommend more as I think of them
xx
