DD already plays piano is now thinking about Piccolo/flute type of intrument.

My DNephew (age 14) plays bassoon and piano and my DNiece (11) plays oboe, recorder and piano.

It's a really good combination and helps with musicality.

Back in 'my day' they didn't really recommend singing and a wind instrument (which is what I did), but I'm not sure on current thinking.

My sister does, to a high standard in both. Piano first then learnt flute.

Yes. DH plays piano & clarinet, both extremely well.

My DD plays piano, guitar and descant & treble recorders. She has a friend who just starting playing the clarinet after 3+ years of playing the piano just so that she could join the school orchestra.

Beanbagz - that's exactly why I started to learn the bassoon!

The guy in the Fun Lovin' Criminals plays keyboards and trumpet at the same time on stage!

It's very common - I play piano and various woodwind, as well as a few others...

I should point out that I'm a musician though! With my music teacher hat on I should point out that piano plus another is a good combination, musically and mentally! Playing an ensemble instrument is also beneficial- something you often miss out on if you play the piano, unless you do some accompanying when you reach a suitable standard.
