Blue badge without claiming PIP

Has anyone successfully applied for a blue badge without claiming PIP?
I've had rheumatoid arthritis for over 20 years and it's been fairly well managed until a couple of years ago. I'm now really struggling to walk far without a lot of pain -I do use a stick supplied by the hospital..
I've seen my consultant this morning and he suggested I apply but I don't claim PIP - I don't yet have any extra costs due to my illness and drive my own car.
I know you don't have to claim PIp to apply but wondered if anyone has been awarded a badge without? - my consultant is happy to supply medical records if required

PIP is awarded based on how your condition affects your daily living or mobility, rather the actual condition itself or whether you need to spend money on it.
Definitely speak to Cit A, as likely they may be able to help you make the application. It's worth keeping a diary of how your condition affects your daily life (eg getting dressed, bathing/showering, preparing a meal, taking medication) and how difficult it is for you to get about (for example, can you walk 20 metres without stopping or without pain, and how long would it take you to do so?) - also consider how many days you feel like this (do you have good days and bad days, or is it most of the time?).
I know not everyone is successful in applying but many people are, and the amount you get isn't means-tested, so it won't matter if you're working.
Fully understand if you feel that applying for a benefit isn't for you, but that money could come in handy to make your life easier if your condition worsens.

Blue badges are awarded with local councils in their own rules so some places much easier than others. My advice would be get evidence of you can e.g. a doctor's letter.

I was refused until I had this.
