Advice sought about disibility aids and NEC security staff

I am not sure this is the right place for me to ask this, but I can't think where else to go, so if it's wrong please forgive me and redirect me.

My husband is planning to go to the Games Expo this weekend at the NEC Birmingham and is concerned about something which he saw last year and he fears may happen again this year. He says that he saw people reduced to tears by the behaviour of the security team, who were refusing to allow people in who needed sticks as walking aids. ("It's a stick, you can't bring it in.") He doesn't know what he can easily do about it, since these security people don't wear identifying badges and can't be reported by name for this horrible behaviour, but he wants to do something.

I know very little about disability discrimination laws, but surely this sort of thing must be illegal? Is there anything he could say to the organisers of the event to make them fear being sued, or even better to the management of the venue? They can't just refuse to allow into events there anyone who needs a stick or sticks to walk with – I mean, it surely can't be official policy?

Can anyone offer advice he can set off with tomorrow afternoon, so that if he sees it happening this year he can act with authority?

TIA

According to Google:

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham offers mobility equipment hire, including walking sticks, for visitors. Visitors can book mobility equipment in advance or hire it on a first-come, first-served basis during show hours. Payment is accepted by card only, and collection locations vary depending on the event.

There's a whole section on accessibility on their Web page. Sounds as if security were making up their own rules.

Thanks for this!

He could get that up on his phone and point it out to the fuckwits making life harder even than it already was for people. I'll forward that to him (he is sorting out tomorrow's transport at the moment).
