Nail cutting service

Asthma927 · 01/05/2025 12:06

I can no longer cut my toe nails. I was looking for a subsidised home service where someone comes to cut your nails.

I've looked online and there are lots of very expensive foot specialists and pedicures but it's beyond my reach.

Does anyone know of a charity or council service or other service that offers reasonably priced home visits just for nail cutting?

Are you diabetic? If so your podiatrist should do it when you have an appointment. It can be quite a task and tbh I wouldn’t trust just anyone to do it, being diabetic podiatrists can spot other issues.

Thanks. No I'm not diabetic. The costs are ridiculous, some are £100 to just cut my toe nails.

The cheapest I've found is £40.

I’ve seen quite a few older people using high street nail bars to get their toe nails trimmed. Could be an option maybe?

I have a disability and need a home visit.

Social services might be able to help? I don’t know what you need to qualify though

PaintDecisions · 01/05/2025 16:34

Look for a beautician / nail tech who can do home visits maybe?

Or ask a podiatrist if they have any recommendations for your situation?

CaptainFuture · 01/05/2025 16:34

Are you getting everything you're entitled to benefits wise that could help pay?

WearyAuldWumman · 01/05/2025 16:36

I recall that my local surgery had a sign up advising that there was some kind of voluntary service available for people in that position. Maybe try phoning your surgery to ask for advice?

ChickenBananas · 01/05/2025 16:44

Could a beautician do your feet or do you need a foot care specialist

I just need my toe nails cut, I don't need a specialist. The beauticians seem to be quite expensive.

I'll call them, good idea.

I think so.

I've been searching for the last couple of days. I phoned Age UK, NHS England, my local council and Scope and none had any suitable recommendations.

Can you get out? Many nail bars will trim nails for a modest fee, I know mine charges £10 for basic fingers and toes before midday weekdays (they are quiet in the mornings)

minnienono · 01/05/2025 16:53

The problem with a home visit is that it costs them time and money to get to you,

This, are you not able to get out at all? If so do you have carers for help with personal care, meals etc, could they recommend anyone?

I think £40 could be quite reasonable depending on distance

I'm afraid I need a home visit.

I don't have carers or know anyone who can help.

They're about ten minutes up the road.

Age uk do a service in some areas for about £20. A chiropodist/podiatrist home visit will be £40-50. Nhs podiatrists now only treat high risk/ at risk of ulceration diabetic patients. They are the options.

Thanks. I contacted my local Age UK and they weren't able to help. Where I live a podiatrist is around £100 for a home visit.

Where are you? If you pm me i can put you in touch with someone who is not going to charge that much as i have a directory of health professionals.

I found someone local who does a mani/pedi for £45. Thanks for the suggestions.
