Am I allowed to drive

Because of my disability, I am often very tired, am very accident prone, and have problems with paying attention. But my functioning levels and capacity fluctuate massively. there are sometimes spurts of days where I am very productive and my capacity and functioning levels are very good.
It would be nice if I could apply to learn how to drive so that I can get out and about. Currently I’m housebound from anxiety. I want some advice as to whether I can have a license and drive if I choose to only drive when I’m having a good day

I would recommend speaking to your GP about this as they will know your capacity and abilities best , I would think OP, rather than random strangers on here . Good luck! Bear in mind that some cars can be adjusted to support people with certain disabilities, which your Gp may be able to advise you where to find more information, if appropriate.

I thought those were for physical disabilities

While your disabilities may allow you to drive, personally, I feel that not being able to pay attention would make you a danger on the road and put other users at risk.

It only takes a moment of lapsed attention for an accident and part of the hazard awareness is that you are paying attention to your surroundings at all times.

Just adding - I choose not to drive as my lack of ability to steer made me dangerous! I almost put the car in a hedge on one lesson!

So I understand not driving and being limited by it

If you have a medical issue or disability which might affect fitness to drive you are obliged to report it to dvla who then decide whether you can , often on a three year review,

I handed my licence back last year due to my deteriorating health. The main reasons being fatigue and lack of concentration. I could never forgive myself if I'd caused an accident. In the last few years I'd only been driving locally but it was still a big wrench. Morally the right thing to do, but the wrong thing for my mental health. I live rurally, which was fine when I was healthy and driving, but not so much now.
I would be honest with yourself. How much does if affect you on a good day? Would you be willing to be assessed by a dr? Driving takes a lot of concentration and this can be exhausting, how does concentration affect you? Then if your positive that your fit enough to drive I'd contemplate it but keep reviewing how your health is and stop if you think it'd detrimental to you or others.
