I've recently moved back to London after living abroad for most of my 20s and I'm now living with my mother who has disabilities, she gets PIP and DLA? I'm starting a new job next month and I will need to provide a certificate of hours I''ll be working

35hrs a week to be exact so I can then contribute to the rent which I already do but housing benefit will then work out how much I need to contribute as it's by law, at the moment she gets most of her rent paid by the housing association she pays the remainder with her PIP I believe I'm not entirely sure, however, I can't find anything online to suggest how much they will take out of my wages as I'm now a non-dependent living with her, contributing isn't an issue but if I'm earning let's say for example £1,600 a month after tax £1,280 and they take let's say anywhere between £600-700 a month how am I going to manage that renting abroad was way cheaper and with other overhead bills added, I'll be left with nothing surely they don't take that much from a non-dependent and the main purpose for moving back home was to look after my mum as she's getting on now. london London London reminds me of why I moved away in the first place.

I read that as she would be exempt from the housing benefit deduction because of claiming PIP.

Yes I believe she is exempt I double-checked with her and she is on PIP and ESA but as I'm non-dependent I will need to contribute thanks so much for the information!

No I think it means nothing will be deducted in her case. As you say you will effectively be a carer anyway.
QUOTE 'When you're exempt
You're exempt if you or your partner are registered blind, or if either of you get any of the following benefits:
personal independence payment (PIP) - daily living componen
disability living allowance (DLA) - care component
attendance allowance
armed forces independence payment
Your housing benefit can't be reduced by non dependant deductions.' QUOTE

It also says it does not apply to lodgers - you will be a type of lodger in a way as she could ask you to leave at any time.
