Charging for DSA medical confirmation

I wondered whether anyone could shed some light.

I am currently studying PT for my masters. I have been advised that I may be eligible for DSA owing to 2 long terms issues. Part of the assessment requires medical confirmation that I do have these conditions, so a GP confirmation. They are charging £24 for this service. I have raised the issue of discrimination with the GP surgery as this is a cost incurred by me which non disabled people would not have to pay for.

For clarification the following was sent to me regarding the charge....

'I have passed your email to Dr X who has advised that the charge stands at £24 as this is non-NHS work for which GP’s are entitled to charge a fee, and disagrees that this is discriminatory.'

Could anyone shed any light on this?

GPs always charge for letters, can you not download your medical records from your surgery website or the nhs app or the airmid app?

You can also do a request for a printed copy of your notes from the surgery which is foc under GDPR

@jossysgiant

I was thinking of doing this. I'll check to see this is ok in terms of validation.

I kinda knew they were in there rights to charge but this feel discriminatory as this is not a cost a non disabled person would have to pay for.
