I have inattentive ADHD and while I've never scored high enough on ASD tests I resonate with some ASD traits.
This led me to buy a book on ASD in adults and as an example these are some of the things that describe me:
- Good rote memory, not so much remembering or knowing what is meaningful or important or adapting concepts.
- Need calm environment for learning
- Not good with external demands or unexpected requests
- Need small chunks of information
- Sometimes feel I can't speak. Trouble asking for help. Repeat myself and get obsessed with topics.
- Constant phone scrolling
- Self care
I'm still not sure how much are traits or normal however I have been wondering whether there are ASD strategies that would help.
From this book I'm reading it suggests a few that I think will be helpful to me.
- having a whiteboard for getting up and closing the day
- sensory activities to help with transitions
I'm sure there are more in the book as I progress, and I was wondering if there are other late diagnosed adults and what strategies you have found helpful?
