DAE have a less than positive experience with being diagnosed?

Mine was one of shock and confusion. So many people describe relief, self acceptance and acceptance from others, but I honestly just felt defeated, broken and so very alone afterwards. And the feeling of being alone has lasted for years, as it feels like at least 95 % of people diagnosed had a better experience.

Please don't just tell me to be proud or have a positive outlook, I was hoping that there could be a space for venting/comfort/advice for those of us who share this rare perspective.

What did you get diagnosed with? And in what circumstance? I think most people who feel relief etc have self referred so it might be that it's relieving because we've had suspicions all along.

Diagnosis is only part of the picture. Were there any suggestions for coping strategies or signposting you to relevant groups or counselling.

So sorry for the late reply, haven't been logged in since.

One of the diagnoses considered "neurodiverse". Yes, I was very young and had little agency in my life, and you're right, it's probably very different if you're self referred.

I have just dipped my toe into support groups, and boards online, but I always feel a bit out of place there.
