Recommendations for private adhd assessment please!

My DD has just been diagnosed as a young adult. She was referred and seen really quickly through the University, which is absolutely brilliant.

However in the process of talking to her about this I felt a real affinity to her symptoms. I have never even considered it before but having done some research I am starting to think this is me too.

When I was a teenager my dad sent me to the GP cos he thought I was schizophrenic. I think back in the 80's that was the only MH condition he knew! But he just couldn't understand me. The GP told me that I had an issue with growing up and spouted a load of outdated Freudian crap at me, to do with ego and ID and how, basically, I needed to grow up. And no I have never forgiven the GP for this and think he was in cahoots with my dad to try and shock me into behaving and getting into uni. It didn't work!

My life since has been a series of starts and not finishing apart from I did manage to get my degree in the early 2000's (I had started 5 different degrees before this one in a variety of subjects). I'm not going to go into all of this now but I feel that I would benefit from an adhd assessment.

So can anyone recommend any private adhd clinics that don't cost the earth? If I go through this was can I then transfer to NHS for continuation of care? Who does assessments for adults for the NHS and would it be worth contacting them for an initial private assessment?

I am in the south and can do Hampshire/ West Sussex/ Dorset. I could do London too.

Thank you for any insight and advice!

I’m sorry that I don’t have any recommendations but I am piggy backing on your thread as interested in replies.

Psychiatry UK. I used them. Once you have titrated on medication (found the right dose) (if you decide to opt for medication) it would transfer to your GP for Shared Care. PUK would continue to do annual reviews.

The other option is to speak to your GP and ask if in England to do Right to Choose, and choose PUK, as they recently became a preferred NHS Provider (or something like that), so there would not be a local wait and the NHS would pay for it all.

PUK are online. There should be a page with costs-initial assessment, follow up letter, prescriptions, cost of medication, follow up appointment.

CheesyNdizi thank you so much that is amazing information and answers all my questions!

I had seen their website and thought they looked really good so it is brilliant to know that they will do what I need....if a diagnosis of adhd is made I will be able to use my GP for follow up once any medication is confirmed ok.

Thank you again!

parrotonmyshoulder hopefully that answers your questions also!
