Former adult ADHD diagnosis and thinking about re-medicating

Hi all,

I was given a tentative in attentive ADHD diagnosis as a teen, but it was never pursued further, until I was in my late 20s, when I was given a formal diagnosis and prescribed concerta

I did really well on medication for a few years, then decided to try without for a while, for various reasons (nothing to do with the drug itself or its effects, as I got on well with it).

I've muddled through for the past 9 years ish, but now I'm thinking of trying it again, as I'm struggling with some day to day stuff and focussing at work (my role has developed and is more demanding, which I love, but it's a struggle).

Does anyone know if my GP will be able to prescribe, or whether I'll have to be referred on? I've had a couple of bad experiences with psychiatric services and not sure I can face another assessment.

Thanks, in advance for any thoughts :)

I think you'll probably have be re-referred for titration, as it's been a while - but I don't think you'll need an assessment as you already have a diagnosis. When you were prescribed last time were your GP the ones to issue the presciption? If so, that might be easier to sort. If it was a ADHD-specific clinic that prescribed you might be re-referred to them to re-start medication, as some GPs are reluctant to prescribe.
