Hi,

I was reading a post on this board recently and had the biggest revelation. I might be living undiagnosed with adhd. For the first time ever I felt like I'd found my people. Read a thread out to my husband and he said it couldn't be any more similar to me and my quirks if it tried.

I'm very impatient, very impulsive so in true style wanted to ask if you have any recommendations for private therapists, psychiatrists that you trust that can start an assessment process?

I would also be interested in this op - I think I have it too

Firstly it’s worth asking your GP (& taking along a completed ADD questionnaire to give them an idea of what traits you may have - I think there’s some links on the www.additudemag.com/ website, which has a lot of interesting info.

Also there is a group on Facebook called ‘Adult ADHD UK (ADHD/ADD)’ which seems to have a lot of people talking about seeking diagnosis in the U.K, from reading people’s experiences on there I think I was very lucky to get a referral/diagnosis and subsequent medication on the NHS fairly simply.

If you do think you do have it though I would definitely recommend following through with the process - it’s life changing & I wish I’d known years ago.

OP, did you follow this up? I have just had a similar revelation and think I may have it too. I'm wondering whether it's worth seeking a diagnosis or not.

Just found this thread as I too think I have this! I've just done another crazy stupid thing this evening which made me revisit it, having looked into it very recently.

I scored 22/24 on the test on the link at the top 🤨.

Sorry forgot your name as on mobile (and zero ability to retain anything 😄)

I’m bumping this thread just for general chat. I have long thought I have ADHD but never sought a diagnosis. Mainly because my son has ADHD and that took absolutely years to get diagnosed and I feel I am not as badly affected as he is so it would be pointless to try. I have been getting really pissed off with myself recently as my attention span is just awful and I’ve realised just how much of my life it has affected. I can never finish anything. It’s left me missing out on qualifications, jobs and even hobbies. I flit from things. I can stick nothing out. Has anyone discovered any ways to help them improve their sticking power/ability to remained focused on something over a long period (like a year!) I write plans and lists for absolutely everything but actually completing a to do list? Forget about it. Unless it’s only 3 items long! Grin

Would love to hear how others are managing to keep focused.

My adult dd was diagnosed with adhd a couple of years ago. I've suspected myself for a couple of years too. I've done a couple of online tests with the results being moderate to severe adhd. It makes a lot of sense.

Interestingly, I think I've had to cope a lot with being the "organiser) of my family as I think Dh has some issues too. Possibly adhd and likely very poor executive function, as do our dc. But one of the things about organising is if I have an appointment I tend to over stress about it.

I also still think back to how people (teachers, my parents) thought of me at school as either naughty or lazy. Wish I'd been diagnosed then. I need to get over this as I'm 52 fgs!!
