Hi Mums and Dads,

I need some information about Bromely. Is this borough Autism friendly? Which boroughs/LA (London or near London) are Autism friendly?

I currently live in Harrow and thinking of moving to ensure that my child gets the best chance for his secondary education.
Thanks

I live in Bromley but just moved here from Greenwich so I cannnot say yet if they are.

I think Surey is good based on testimonials from other parents and south west london area generally especially as they have a lot of asd schools and independent schools .

Do you have a school in mind in Bromley ?

mgupta · 19/05/2020 09:32

Hi, I have not visited any school in Bromley but liked Riverside school, Marjorie McClure School. Let me how it goes in Bromley. Do you know which schools are good at surrey?
thanks

Depends on what diagnosis your child has.Blossom House in Motspur park is very good and that’s what was recommended to us but it it’s too far from Bromley .Riverside is very good too and I have heard good things about Marjorie McClure but I haven’t visited .I have visited both sites of Riverside and they are very good. How old is your child? We still travel to Greenwich everyday but I am hoping school can be sorted by September though I haven’t made up my mind on where he will attend

Thanks for the info. My child is 13 years old. So looking for secondary provisions.

I heard the Glebe in west wickham in Bromley is good too for secondary and Riverside too.Theres Parkwood Hall in Swanley and a lot of children from Bromley go there and it’s funded by the LA.

Have you checked Moorhouse School in Surrey to depends on his ability. Its an amazing school too but my son is too young and also won’t fit in as he does not have speech and language as his primary need .

Parkwood is more of a life skills school and they prepare children for independence.Check parkwood Hall they are in sevenoaks but very close to Bromley .

mgupta · 19/05/2020 12:54

Thanks, so much for the information. I would check the schools. Parkwood sounds nice school. I also liked Quest school.

Yes Quest is good too but they did not let us view and kind of said we have to live in Kent as it may be too stressful to travel .I was told to just tell the LA to consult with them and they would let me know but it’s hard to choose a school you can’t view so I decided to look elsewhere .

Were you able to view Quest?

Have you checked other ABA schools too .Parkhouse in Wandsworth and Jigsaw and I have forgotten the other one around Surrey.

Are you on Facebook.Join a group called Educational equality and you will find a lot of school recommendations there and parents with similar aged children and that may also help you towards making a choice of where to live .

Bromley is not bad we are just about a year here now but I cant say in comparison to Harrow and Bromley is better than Greenwich in terms of schools .

mgupta · 20/05/2020 11:46

How are short breaks services in Bromely? Harrow has good short break services. I would join Educational equality. Thanks for the info. I have not visited any of the schools. As we decided to move this year so gathering information. We are happy with my son's school but since now he is growing so I want to focus more on life skills. That's why exploring.

Oh I see.Their short breaks seem to be fine too and they are building a big centre and have some amazing plans and I watched the presentation at a session I went to when we just moved. We get 4 hours weekly direct payments which we use for a PA and some disability swimming lessons

mgupta · 21/05/2020 19:18

Thanks, here also we use it for swimming and also Mencap. It is quite nice. They take kids for nice outings.

Ladyapinks · 21/05/2020 20:28

Sorry just seeing your message .No he still goes to greenwich but the council pays for transport for him to be taken to school.
