hi there,
I'm looking for an ABA tutor for my 2 and half year old son, I've been looking online and can't for the life of me find any. I've found one or two and they are charging £65-£80 per hour sessions. I'm not made of money but I want to help my son, he is in dire need of this help.

please ladies help a mother who is at a complete loss.

thank you

Please please don’t. ABA is a very expensive way to make your child pretend to be someone they are not. This can cause massive damage later if they cope with it now.

As I understand it ABA is based on rewarding desirable behaviour and discouraging undesirable behaviour, basically discouraging overtly “autistic” behaviour. But altering your little ones behaviour will not change the fact that he is autistic and I truely believe that you are best placed to decide on the behaviours you won’t accept as a mummy. For example, part of ABA may focus on forcing a child to make eye contact which may be exceptionally distressing for them but you may not see this as a problem. My daughter is autistic and exhibits behaviour which I find unacceptable so as her mum I refuse to accept it. I tell her no, I am consistent and I reward or punish as needed. If you can’t afford ABA that doesn’t mean that you as his mummy can’t forge on yourself. Have you been in touch with your local children with disability team? They can get you in touch with behaviour nurses and other support.
