How did you know?

Hi! Just discovered this thread and I'm so happy to read posts from people who sound a bit like me!!
I'm just, well, a bit odd. My counsellor has been gently hinting at aspergers although I feel I have more dyspraxia traits.

So anyway, my question, if you were diagnosed as an adult, what was it about you that made you convinced you were aspergers/dyspraxia/adhd?

How did you get to the point where you self diagnosed or sought a diagnosis?

Would love to hear your stories!
Thanks!

I've never been diagnosed. My sis suggested I was aspie because of difficulty making eye contact with new people, hopeless with relationships and sensing how others feel. I can do not very useful stuff like recite the periodic table & remember every car reg plate every family member & boyfriend has ever had.
I can focus for much longer than most and will stick with something when most will give up. I work in high tech and am fine as long as I don't have to cope with cliquey groups of women. Gossipy stuff & social media make me cringe.
The best thing is I had long ago concluded that I was incapable of loving anyone - two main boyfriends had both reached this conclusion, and then I had ds and proved them both completely wrong.
The best feeling ever Grin
What about you?

I went to see a clinical psychologist at 16 for some reason or other, the idea of me having Aspergers “markers” was raised but not enough for a full dx. I started reading up on it and much of what I read resonated with me. I then went for an assessment at Lorna Wing and was given a diagnosis via DISCO.
For me it’s mainly social issues and general anxiety/self-esteem issues, along with other bits and bobs, for example we’re getting a new car soon and my parents have already joked that I’ll be able to remember the registration number very quickly.
