Does anyone have any success with aspergers and anti-depressants

Hello,I was dx in December with aspergers but have been on ad's for several years for depression and anxiety. I'm only on 20mg and for ages I've wanted to increase the dosage. I have been to my doctors several times to ask this but he won't put the dose up due to risk of heart palpitations. I've asked for another ad but he's been very unhelpful. I'm going to see another doctor tomorrow with my husband as I'm off the scale at the mo. (I'd like to be more informed this time and be more assertive hence why hubby is coming too.Combination of school hols, eldest son also has aspergers and younger son has jus teen dx with food intolerances so is all over the place. )
I know everyone is different but has anyone found that ad's have helped? My main issues are my rigidness and remaining calm when things aren't the way I like them. I find the citalopram does take the edge off but not enough at the mo.

Anyone? Please, I'm desperate Confused

Good luck today - I have a little experience of AD and asperger's you need to speak to your prescribing Dr or the Dr who diagnosed your Aspergers. If your GP is prescribing doctor ask for a referral to the Dr who diagnosed Aspergers. Ask lots of questions and if you feel that you are being fobbed off ask for a second opinion. Hope it goes well X

Thanks Buffy. The prescribing doctor is semi retired and nigh on impossible to get an appointment with. I'm going to take my report with me. Hopefully hubby will put his foot down wrt getting it sorted. It's awful,I keep having self harming thoughts and the other day I got so upset that I started banging my head on the coffee table repeatedly which scared the shit out of dh.Confused

I do t normally advise googling meds but it might help if you googled yours and the side effects. Sometimes just seeing it in black and white can stop it feeling so scary. Most side effects fade after a while but Drs don't always explain these very clearly. You may need to get your 'firm' hat on and insist. Good luck X

I'm back. He's doubled the dose to 40mg.Shock which is a little terrifying but he has insisted on having an ECG which I will have next week and then I've got to see him in a month for a review.
Dh was fab and asked if given our family circumstances/situation which is dire at the mo whether we can be referred for family. This is now in hand so I've taken some positive steps today. Thanks for your support.

In glad it went well and DH was firm Grin hope it all goes well and you start to feel better soon. Remember it may take many tweaks of these meds to get the dose right or even a change of meds X

Yes he did say that. He said if this doesn't to make me feel better then we will try another SSRI.

I'm currently on sertraline and it's working really well after having a bit of a bad time on citalopram.

Don't be afraid to try other ones. I'm so glad that I did.
