Hello,

This is our regular two-yearly survey looking at women's experiences of miscarriage care in the UK.

The Mumsnet Miscarriage Care campaign has run since 2010 and its aims are to ensure that all miscarrying women, and all women experiencing other forms of pregnancy loss, get the good, respectful, empathetic care that they need. You can read more about the campaign here. In the past we've had successes such as getting the post-miscarriage surgical procedure renamed, after lots of you said that you found the old terminology upsetting. But, of course, we want to keep the pressure on for better services and care.

Although our campaign is principally about miscarriage care, many aspects also apply to other forms of pregnancy loss, such as ectopic pregnancies that are ended by medical treatment, or stillbirths. Women who have experienced these since June 2016 are very welcome to fill in the survey. Apologies in advance if some of the questions aren't appropriate to your situation, but there should always be an option for you to say that something isn't applicable to you.

Because the aim of the survey is partly to compare results with previous surveys and see what (if any) changes there have been, we're asking only women who have experienced pregnancy loss since June 2016 to fill this one in.

We know that pregnancy loss can be a difficult thing to talk about, so thank you in advance for sharing your experiences in the survey. We'll use the results to inform and update the campaign.

A note about language: we've tried to be as sensitive as possible in choosing our words here. We hope we've made the right choices, but please do give us your feedback if you think something isn't right.

Please click here to complete the survey.

All who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks

MNHQ

I have completed it. My partner and I were left devastated after our Miscarriage last Christmas. Unfortunately he came off worse as I managed to get through the worst of it physically not realising that he was struggling so much emotionally. He has since been diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression with the miscarriage very much at the centre of it. Neither of us were given any information, no leaflet, no direction to a charity, nothing. It was horrific. I was totally unprepared for the physical and emotional aspects of a pregnancy loss. We felt so let down by both hospitals that saw me. But I do strongly feel there needs to be more support for both mother and the partner.

I don't think I could have got through it without the miscarriage topic board supporting me through and the Miscarriage Association with all their amazing information and support.

Done. Lost mine on Christmas Day 2018, after 15 years TTC I'm totally heartbroken.

Bamchic · 01/01/2019 11:29

Oh Loz I’m so so sorry

Lozz22 · 01/01/2019 12:32

Done.. I did let my midwife know, luckily I was able to email them. I called to cancel my 12 week scan and they said they would cancel my other consultant appointments. I didn't assume the EPU would cancel these. It was distressing to have to call up, but I thought that's what I had to do.

MESSING2 · 03/01/2019 21:13

Forgot to mention, I got sent a midwife appointment 2 weeks after the MC so my GP/EPU hadn't updated my records.

April2020mom · 21/01/2019 16:52

The survey results were interesting. My friend and I filled the survey out. She had virtually no follow up care and support after diagnosis and termination of pregnancy for medical reasons. Similarly I mostly coped with support from other sources. My church were waay more supporting. This is not acceptable.

Dubbadubbadumdum · 24/01/2019 16:59

I have to mention this-I think the option of being added to a prize draw at the end of the survey is a bit crass, given the emotive topic. I realise not everyone will feel this way, but I don't want the booby prize because I have a dodgy reproductive system.

EnergeticMartian · 26/01/2019 20:32

Done. Thanks.

mrshocking · 27/01/2019 23:08

Completed - it's heartbreaking that loss is pawned off (at least where I stay) as ''meh'' something that happens. No different from a period or a sore head. I've had an absolute nightmare with the NHS (7 losses) and them admitting that they could have done more to save my pregnancies when I fell pregnant and subsequently lost that baby also, they then admitted again they could have done more. They are happy to admit their flaws but no action is taken when it happens again.

catsandsprogs · 29/01/2019 17:24

Done, thank you for this.

MsJuniper · 29/01/2019 18:56

I did find this hard to fill in accurately as my most recent mc wasn't very typical of my experience and I was also already under the care of the RMC so it was hard to make sense of the questions about aftercare.
