BEAR have asked us to find out what Mumsnetters think and know about school lunchboxes and labelling for healthy snacking .

Here's what BEAR say, "BEAR was founded to make happier, healthier foods for families. Our pure fruit and veg snacks contain absolutely no added sugars, concentrates or any other nonsense and our Alphabites are the only UK children’s cereal with no refined sugar or salt. Lots of Mums have been giving BEAR a growl lately to say that they think there are a lot of misleading products out there and they’d love some help to clear up the confusion about what’s really healthy, and allowed in school lunchboxes. Together with Mumsnet, BEAR will be using the information that you provide to campaign for change and clearer labelling when it comes to children’s food products "

This survey is open to all UK Mumsnetters with at least one child age 5-10.

Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

done! i cant believe how misleading packaging on food.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 28/09/2015 18:59

Those sticky bite things in the packet we tested had more sugar gram for gram than a bag of Haribo Starmix. I don't know about yoyos because I haven't looked.

My figures and sources were on the feedback thread where I compared the sugar content to Haribo and they were definitely marketed as a healthy snack.

I absolutely agree labelling should be better and I think Bear should put their house in order first. I like Bear products but I don't like the misleading packaging. I'd still buy them even without the healthy eating guff as a treat food.

My nearly 3 yo loves bear fruit yoyo's (but I can't enter because I'm not in the demographic sought). I have made my own fruit leather in the past and will again but tbh don't have the time all the time. I like them and the alpha bites cereal. Let's face it, I'm sure we all want our children eating brown rice and lentils as a snack with perfect macros BUT they are children. Hard wired to like the sweet stuff. I think it's all about moderation and sensible choices where you can make them. Of course she eats lots of fresh fruit but she wants fun snacks because other kids have them and bear helps me feel not too bad about letting her snack.

7yo DD has begged me to buy some YoYo's - she wants the collectibles and likes the snack too. So I will get some in - I won't be giving them as a fruit substitute, but as a "sweet treat".

I've entered as I have a four 5-10 year olds!

why are the number of portions of fruit veg limited to 5+ when recent studies have recomended that children eat seven or preferably 10 portions?

I am lucky. mine are a bit unusual, in that the toddler tears that were had over broccoli were because they were not allowed more because of the consequences in their nappy...and all the way up their back I hated veg as a kid.. (though mum murdered it all)

I find the treat stuff is more expensive than some fresh fruits per portion. I tend not to look much anymore though as I prefer to give them fresh fruit.
