We are interested in your opinions on informing children about 999 or other numbers in the case of an emergency.

This survey is open to UK Mumsnetters who have at least one child aged 3 or older.

Everyone who completes this survey will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Done. It's more about if you haven't taught them though Grin

RabidFairy · 14/04/2015 18:19

Done

JemimaPuddled · 14/04/2015 19:16

Done. What about finding more about those who have children who know this stuff? Or how and when? As usual, loaded questions.

MagicAlwaysLeadsToTrouble · 14/04/2015 20:32

Done

ouryve · 14/04/2015 23:10

I did this focussing on my child with ASD and LDs for balance, if it was needed.

Done, answers based on my five year old... Not clear how to answer if you live with more than one child!

MrsPeabody · 15/04/2015 19:08

Made me realise we have left this late!

Hulabaloo3 · 15/04/2015 22:11

Good prompt to start, I think.

JeffTheGodOfBiscuits · 15/04/2015 22:37

Done!

BackforGood · 15/04/2015 23:10

Done, but perhaps you should have said "for those with a child under 10" or something - questions a bit ridiculous for those of us with older dc.
Also, as others have said, had to miss a whole lot of the questions as it is aimed at those who don't know 999

The questions about 999 / 911/ 101 / 111 etc was really unclear too.

Sorry! Don't mean to be complain-y, but not sure what anyone is really going to learn from such a poor set of questions.

JemimaPuddled · 16/04/2015 00:59

Btw MNHQ Are you aware that we're teaching the "heartstart" programme in primary schools from year 1 upwards? It's national and I've been teaching it for 2yrs, huge success. It's under the umbrella of the British Heart Foundation and it's an excellent programme.

Hulabaloo3 · 16/04/2015 22:36

I asked my DC "what would you do if someone collapsed?", and was astounded to hear the reply was "ring 999" without even the blink of an eye!

I asked how they knew and was told "got it from school".

Really impressed.

kungfupidge · 17/04/2015 10:30

done ! my son is seven and knows what to do in an emergency, i think are local school helped a lot with this as well as me telling him to.

Eigg · 17/04/2015 16:16

For those who haven't done this yet, role play is really useful for taking them through the questions they'd be asked.

Garton · 20/04/2015 22:20

done. would have been nice if I could answer more than a few.

DanFmDorking · 20/04/2015 23:15

Survey completed.

To KathrynMumsnet
From Dan

With reference to ‘14. Does your child know your address or postcode?’

It’s a complete WASTE OF TIME if a child says (or usually mutters) ‘twenysevenhawthornecloseanyplaceanytownanycountyrh11aa’ and a family member says ‘Yes, well done.’

I said WASTE OF TIME.

The child must be able to state their address CLEARLY so that a stranger (on the end of a phone, say) can understand it.

I’m afraid I’ve had experience of this situation.

Please pass this on to the originators of the Survey.

Dan
